For those girls who do pump class

Im gona do a pump class...cos if im gona do light weights (due to my bak) i might as well do it w a whole class..
my question is about what to eat??
ive got a morning class..should i eat at all? or a piece of fruit or protein shake?

please post!

Okay, I don't know what the heck a pump class is...but yes, you should eat something before you go. If you feel that too much in your stomach will effect your workout, then just eat a piece of fruit...but if not...you could go for some oatmeal and a couple of eggs.

You mean BodyPump - the prechoreographed barbell resistance class?

I teach that, but I really am not a fan of it at all & wouldn't recommend that anyone do it. The only thing I think that's good about it is that it's better than NOTHING! It is at least *some* resistance training - which most women wouldn't do otherwise.

High reps typically means 15-30 or so. In BodyPump you will do, literally, 60-100 reps in about 5 minutes. Um, that's kinda nuts. I have counted up the reps & will be more than happy to scan & post copies of the choreography sheets.

Pump is such light resistance training that it's sort cardio in a bizarre way.

I think that if you're doing REAL lifting with heavy weights & want to do some light days, do 15-20 or even 30 reps, but Pump can lead to joint problems for some. I'd be interested to hear others opinions on 60-100 reps for a "light day", but I think only go if you are REALLY lacking motivation to do light weights on your own.

I think I saw that in that movie section the video store keeps behind the beaded curtain... Im too embarassed to go back and look...

;)

Oh, regarding the actual qustion :lmao: ->

Food wise, treat it like cardio. If you are a fan of the empty stomach guideline (I'm not), then do empty stomach.

Personally, my joints would probobly get up, jump out of my skin, tell me "Screw you, asshole" and go find someone who wouldnt abuse them so...

There were these young guys at the gym back in Detroit I went to, they were the typical 160lb idiots. Wife beaters on, backward hats, acting like tough guys... they would do probobly 6-8 sets of triceps. At least 70 reps per set! And probobly twice a week!
They would moan in pain and tell each other "Dude, your arms are gonna be huuuuuge!"

They would work chest and you could hear their shoulders pop and grind from their poor form. The one kids shoulders horrendous sound, like tearing tendon and grinding bone. He yells out in pain and stops the lift. His friend (obviously an exercise profesional) says "Dude, dont stop. That just means youre about to grow!".

I know I digressed off topic, but I love that story! :D

glads, yes i mean bodypump.

i just did it, i ate 1/2 serve protein powder w 1/4 grapefruit and teaspoon cottage cheese..hhmm..kinda weird combo, but I had nrg. maybe next time i wont eat see how i go.

I did the class mostly using body weight..and it was still tough. Im concentrating on technique and really focusing on my abs for support. I feel like SUCH a weakling after having a month away from lifting...but i guess you gota start somewhere.

my postworkout meal was a tuna salad w heaps of raw vegies, pysllum husks and cottage cheese. I figure there is no need for whey after this type of workout?!

O i also did 20mins low-intensity cardio after...this is ok isnt it?!

thanks for the replies :)

I actually find if very hard to maintain strict form (especially on the squat) for FIVE SOLID MINUTES NON-STOP! :(

Cardio afterwards is fine SO LONG AS you didn't really fatigue your legs. Considering the high reps, you're legs probably are not so fatigued as to need rest - so if it felt fine, no prob. Actually every other Sunday I teach a Pump class followed immediately by a basic step class.

As for food afterwards - it is *possible* that you depleted your glycogen stores & would need a high-GI carb to replenish them. Depends on how hard you were working. Eat something afterwards if you feel like it, but I wouldn't consider it crucial.
