Hey
I'd like to hear your thoughts about this issue..
Most guys eat a regular meal with low GI carbs 1-2 hours before workout and then a PWO shake consisting of whey and high GI carbs. What would you do if you had diabetes type II and not being able to "carb up" with high GI carbs post WO?

thanks
Thom

When you say not being able to, what do you mean? It should'nt matter. I don't believe the sugar will affect you in a negative way. It will go straight to the muscle as replaced glycogen

it wont go straight to the muscle.. it will first go into the bloodstream and cause a hellova bloodsugar spik.. and a diabetes II patient must avoid that, and stay away from high GI carbs (like sugar, maltodextrin etc)

Just sticking with low GI will suffice then

One doesn't "NEED" to spike insulin level PWO such as described... just eat every 2-3 hours no matter what you're doing, and maybe a larger meal and just more carbs (ie, brown rice, potatoes) pwo.

Glucorell-R would be somthing to look at too, great product.

My wife is a type 2...I "played" with her pwo sugars till I found the right amount. It is very small. With a diabetic, the dive post workout can be worse.

I found in the end a small banana works great for her.

Strange how it does'nt affect when someone is in ketosis. i.e. the sugar goes straight to the muscle.

Dude, i think maybe we got off on the wrong foot, and i dont want you to think i am singling you out, i am not: but that is just plain wrong!

It completely depends on what KIND of sugars you are talking about in reference to where they are stored first.... sucrose does NOT behave like fructose which does NOT behave like dextrose/glucose which certainly are all high GI carbs... Targetted Supra-Compensation of Glycogen without the use of partitioning agents is completely dependent on what kind of sugar it is, not just the GI index.

Case in point: if you ate fructose while in deep ketosis it would go to replenishing liver glycogen almost immediately while pure glucose/dextrose will be far more apt to replenish muscle glycogen.

I already know this. He did not specifcally quote. His words were precisely 'High GI carbs', therefore i justify to what info is given.

If he is not precise with a question, he will not get a precise answer.
