Double Denim Days

I just benched this morning with my Double Denim radical cut open back. For the beginners out there, this is basicly the top of the line in bench press shirts.

A lot of sucess with this shrt appears to be technique. I missed an attempt at weight then I smoked the same weight a few minutes later.

Why did this happen? I pulled down the shirt hard after the miss and I tightened the belt one notch more (it still wasn't overly tight).

I think that the elbows flare out and the weight drifts back over the face when the groove is missed. This was the diffrence between making or missing in this case.

Has anyone else gone through this? If the shirt isnt pulled down, it can mess you up, at least with me it did.

Its hit or miss with these shirts. I have had some major problems with the bar drifting toward my face on a missed groove attempt. What you said exactly is why you need good spotters around. With an open back denim if you miss the groove you might as well just had lifted raw!

Another dangerous draw back that i learned in 2 meets (one caused injury and months of rehab) is when you reach the bottom of the decent, and you are not in your groove. The shirt that is an overly tight shirt will have your elbows flare back towrd your head (direction wise, not literlly) in order for the weight to get down all the way. When you are in this position you are not in a benching position. So when you press the weight, it will just go up and back to ward your head. SO after the injury i had sustained, my next meet 6 months later i did the same exact thing but the spotters caugh tit before i was hurt again. So now if i feel out of groove, number 1 stay in th egroove, Dont contort and give up body postion inorder to get weight down properly. But like i was saying when i am out of groove i abandon the lift at the bottom. Just simply say get it. Dont try to push it up or think you can come ou tof it easily. Of course push up so the spotters dont have to deadlift but don ttake the attempt. Hell my last meet if i couldnt get the weight all the way down i would say take it. I am spoiled and i am scared of being hurt like before. If i do get hurt i am callin it quits for a while. So needless to say i am care ful.. And you denim users should too.

But the plus is if you got some major tri strength , and that bar lands right ...oh shit, big weight will move! I love denim and only recently with my ovrly tight shirts have i experinced these problems. Never had em with my closed back denim. Have actually thought of going back to closed back, but once my new shirt comes in if it works i will get more and stick with open back. I have been assured that my elbows will not flare at all. We'll see.

I have had some shirt problems recently as well. The misses have all been back toward my head. I have been hitting the racks a lot lately. A missed groove is a missed lift. Getting in the groove can be a bit tricky with the double denim's. They are not terribly forgiving.
