Diet drinks and their effects on training/diet

I recently heard something about diet drinks(D.P. Coke, etc.) screwing with protein synthesis. What do you ladies and gentlemen think about this? What are the negative effects of consuming 2-3 diet cokes a day(if any)? Is it really a big deal?

This theory has more to do with the carbonation in soda than anything else. Some guys claim that carbonation hinders protein synthesis, although I'm not sure to what extent. I've read on other boards that this is a myth.....but I've never seen a study on the matter either way.

I would be curious to know how that could be true. I guess its possible, but doesnt protein synthesis take place after the protein has been absorbed ? I cannot see how carbonation could effect it ???

I have never seen any info on the carbonation affecting protein synthesis. There are other "harmful" compounds in some diet drinks. Phosphoric acid is NO GOOD....I could see how that may impact some bodily processes.

Just an idea

There's also a good amount of sodium in diet sodas. I usually have about one a day because I don't think they're really all that bad for you. And yeah, I also read about the carbonation thing so I don't drink them with meals. I stick to water, iced tea, and crystal light.
