Depression affecting lifting

thx for the support guys, im doin a lot better lately. i remember last summer i considered suicide a few times, now i know that nothing is worth doing that. i know its getting better now, i think i should be fine after graduation, im just under a lot of stress right now. but now that im bulking instead of cutting, i dont have the stress of a diet on my mind all the time now.

It really isn't. It's a cowardly way out of life, plus you can potentially ruin a great life ahead of you. Not to mention you'll do colateral damage to those around you, friends/family. Well feel better. The best cure for stress is apathy :)

yea i thought a lot about how it would affect my friends, since im very close to a lot of my friends. not so much my family though. i havent talked to or seen my mom in over a year. me and my dad get along but never do anything together. my bro and i and pretty close though.

lee i know how you feel. i think all teens go through hell at some point, wether they want to admit it or not. Trying to figure out what you want to do after high school, trying to mature, girls, etc.

just tough it out and ride out the good times, i just try to accept that life has its ups and downs. its good that you and your bro are close, how old is he ? i got a 15 year old brother and he's one of my best friends

good luck , keep lifting hard and get to cali

my bro is 20 and im 17, turning 18 in august. me and him are like best friends, its good to have a brother that i can talk to about shit.

Fishoils have documented anti-depressant and anti-psychotic effects.

I have been following fishoil and, in particular, EPA. I have not seen a study showing this benefit.

Can you provide a source for this information?

Much thanks!

I've been slightly depressed for some time now, and it's been getting worse lately, and the worst part of it is that it is bringing down my gym performance. I feel that I can't psyche myself up as much, and fail much earlier then before due too mental doubt. Does anyone know what I can do to get over this so I can be back to my normal self?

Depression is very different from having the blues. Many of the suggestions here can help with "the blues", but not with real depression which is caused by hormonal imbalances in the brain.

Even if it's lifting right now, go see a doctor. The right medication can have a bigger positive effect on your life than you realize. T

Thanks,

I only found a reference to a magazine article that mentioned one scientist's theory. But I did some more searching. A number of the medical references didn't have abstracts. I did find two that showed improvement with larger doses of EPA. Neither had controls, which is critical for measuring effects on depression. (Because of necessary patient interaction for a study, depression usually shows improvements even for placebo's.)

All in all, its a possibility. I take 2-3g's of EPA for other reasons (heart & neural cell effects) so another benefit would be nice.

In my opinion, EPA is an important supplement for anybody concerned about their health.

What's your age? And yes to combat slight depression, you need to keep busy outside of the house. Also, are you under any unusual amount of stress? Are your eating habits good? I notice that lots of stress as well as poor eating habits will affect my mood dramatically. Don't let your mood take over and ruin or negatively affect your training! Finally, don't look to meds unless you have to. That's such a trend now everyone is on anti-deps. Ugh.
