Depression affecting lifting

Hey Lee:
Definitely agree with gmanlax7, get a friend involved with your weightlifting to help you along. Interesting living in Alaska though. How long have you lived there? I know that the days are very long in Alaska, so I hope you're getting decent sleep. Another thing with sleep is I hear the quality of sleep is derived from darkness. You have to be in a dark place to sleep deeply. Just some thoughts, hope you get over your slump.

i have a good weight training partner, we started a new 3 day split this week, but we couldnt workout wednesday on tricep/chest day cuz he was sick, and it bummed me out even more cuz i hate missin days. ive lived in alaska since 87 when i was 2 years old. the days in the summer last way to long, its 9:30 pm right now and the sun is still shinin bright. i do get good sleep regardless though.

Really a complicated issue. Circumstancially induced depression/anxiety is mostly an issue of perspective when healthy lifestyle has been in order. In the meantime, the nerve processes have taken a hit, and can affect you gaining the needed perspective to deal with your perceived problems. Give morning meditation, supplementation with Green Tea and L-Phenylalanine mornings and midday, and late evening 5-HTP supplementation a try. All this will help in improving/regulating your neurotransmitter functions. And consider talking to a psych. doc or spiritual advisor about what's really bothering you. Good luck.

ill try the supplementation and maybe the meditation, but i wont go see another head doc, i had to when i was younger for anger management and it was horrible.

Hey, you are in Alaska right...some of the best snow on the f'n planet...learn to ride brother, you need to find something like snowboarding that inspires you spiritually...I know it sounds cheesy but I am a diagnosed bi polar and after a year of hell on lithium I learned to surf and then snowboard...those are the only meds I have needed ever since.

i used to snowboard, for 5 years, but i was horrible and now my feet are too big for any board. and i would have to get custom boots, size 15 foot sucks. i also used to skate, but being 6'5" 220 pounds makes decks break pretty damn easy. im somewhat over it now, im still having some trouble copping at school, but im graduating in 18 school days, may 27th is hte last day.

Just because you had one bad shrink doesn't mean they all suck. You gotta switch around until you find one that you really work with. There are a ton of therapies out there, medical being only one of them. A good doctor will employ as many as he needs.

uhh, don't mean to be a dick....
but, get a girlfriend?!

and expand your horizons...gym and school aren't even 1/100000000000000th part of all there's to see/do in this world

~~peace!

yeah lee, im not sure how the depression is going, but i just read your post where you said you don't do much besides lifting. you definatly have to work on this

go to stupid shit with friends, play hoops , go to the movies, smoke some weed, go out to eat, listen to music , beat up your friends, whatever

just get out of the house, the worst thing you can do is sit around and marinate in your own depressing juices

Lifting should help your depression. After about 5 weeks from starting your dopamine, seratonin, norepinephrin and endorphins should start re-adjusting for the better.
It can also have to do with circadian rhythms. Living in Alaska must be horrible for your circadian clock. Perhaps finding the source of your depression and resolving it may be helpful.
A girlfriend? Hmm I do recall you...maybe it was someone else...posting something about using weight training as a means to relieve stress from girl problems.
Well good luck man. If it does get severe get help, depression is never fun, having it worsen is the last thing you want to do. Severe = point where your ambitions goes to shit/procrastination/interupted daily functioning etc and especially suicide. Just be careful :).
