Deads??

Dose this happen to anyone else after doing stiff leg deads,
after my third set my mid back aches really bad for about 15 to
30 minutes...it's not sharp pain just a real deep bad ache
and i feel like i'm gonna throw.

Is this normal with this exercise?

I normally work legs the day after I work back. I do deadlifts on back day so by the time I work legs and do stiff legged deads my back has not recovered and so I used to get that real deep ache in my back (the spinal erectors).

It stopped with me because I increased the rep pace. I did it faster first off all to get the exercise over and done with but I found out that my back did not ache after it of during. I allways made sure of perfect form.

Also when performing them do not completely straighten up. Just bring the bar to your quads and then back down.

if you are doing this exercise for hams and just get back pain from it I would halt it. Heavy, high rep leg curls are the way to go anyways, stiff legs never did a thing for me. I figure I just got sore from the stretch, the hams are the biceps of the leg and need to be FLEXED to grow is my way of thinking. I wouldn't strecth my arms and hope to make them grow, I CURL. Just my $.02 :)

Heavywear, you lack a basic understanding of the function of the hamstrings. They attatch at both the knee and hip joint. Any time you flex at the hip joint (i.e. when doing straight leg deads) you are using your hamstrings. Any powerlifter will tell you that deads will work the hamstrings far more effectively than leg curls.

Thanx for the advice guys...
I do deads more for my lowerback though i think i'll try and increase the rep speed like Wyllis said because i do usally
do them really slow so mabey thats whats causing the bad ache
when i finish.

thanx again
