basketball and it's impact on training

Question:

How severly would a lunchtime hoops game of ~45 minutes impact a 5x5 program? it's the only real cardio I get. It's sort of like sprinting (I'm a fast break running kind of player)

just thinking.. it's outdoors and I sweat a great deal.. I try to get 2 gals of water a day...
 
I'm really competitive so it's really intense.. and I play 3-4X a week.. I have a feeling it's whyI feel so tired all the time... I'm trying to up my calories, but I just can't eat taht much.. ugh
 
Well, depending on how intense/often these games are, it could affect it a decent amount. But I think it's healthy, and keeps the metabolism up there.

If you weren't to do them at all, you would likely gain more muscle and more strength, but if look on the bright side, your gains should be a little leaner.

Just make sure to eat lots.
 
Make sure you eat more calories than you burn.

However, I agree with Polish Hammer. I've been playing ball about 5 days a week (about 7 hours/week for me). I'm still seeing my deadlift and squat numbers increase steadily, but my bench is becoming very hard to grow.
 
It will be ok for short term, but fatigue accumulates.

People keep thinking what you do in a week or from day to day is all there is to it. But no, you have to see the full picture over months. Overtraining doesn't happen from one week or one workout, it's an accumulation over workouts, weeks and months
 
I think I might stop since my last three injuries didn't come from lifting, but from basketball :(
