700,000 HIV or AIDS in China

According to the Sunday New York Times, China has for the first time acknowledged that at least 700,000 people have HIV or AIDS.

And they got the Olympics.

That's amazing. I realize that no society is completely closed anymore-but the Chinese seem to come pretty close. It'd be interesting to know how the disease spreads predominantly thru their country and how it was introduced.You also have to allow that the figure is still probably on the conservative side.

Thats pale compared to the 30,000,000 infected in Africa.

I think the point was that the govt. of China for years(since 1985) has insisted that no HIV or AIDS cases existed within their borders.At that time we found it very hard to believe. Now they are admitting that the Western disease is, in fact, infecting their people as well.
It wasn't meant to detract from the multitudes that are dying in other regions.

I think that them getting the olympics is going to put a spotlight on there country. Although considering their population that is a real low number.

It is also probably a lie.
