Womens WEIGHT TRAINING

BatZgirl

New member
Hello Everybody

Im writing an article for a local South African womens magazine on women and weight training. I need some professional opinions or statements from professionals in the field of womens training to use in my article.

The article is about how important weights are in womens training and also discusses the myth that women belive they dont need weights and also how most women belive that if they train with weight they will get super big. Its not a body building article just an article on how the "myth" has stopped so many women from enjoying the full befinits of weight training.

If there is anyone (women who lifts weights but not a body builder) who wishes to make a statement on this issue it would be greatly appreciated :)

Post statements or email to [email protected]

THanks in advance :):fro: :bat:

There's a sticky with exactly what you're looking for at the top of this page. 2 actually! :)

Good luck!

Thanks

Thanks spats, read it already but Im not looking for info Im looking for PROFESSIONAL STATEMENTS by trained fitness persons :)

Did some woman piss you off recently? Ouch!

You didn't even put up a disclaimer about the women on this board. :-( Not that we're normal, average women!

Men in general:

A. Do not acknowledge the facts about lifting, unless it's a beer.

B. Will do everything 180 degrees out from what is actually needed to do to "get big".

C. Lack any scientific knowledge to differentiate weight/mass/volume and refuse to learn about it, but they pretend to be authorities on the subject.

D. Will spend endless amounts of money on "lite" beer and expect to lose weight.

E. Will not eat quality foods; vegetables are for decoration only.

F. Will eat anything and everything until the almost die.

G. Have inflated egos.

I could go on, but I figure this will get the ball roling a bit.

He did say "women in general"... :)

None of us on this board would consider ourselves among the "in general", would we? :FRlol:

And by and large, I'd say those statements about "women in general" are right on the money. Same goes for MrsPuddles' "Men in General". As for the women ones, every one of them was true for me at one time.

Well, as a woman reading this.....I guess I really can't get offended, because you are telling the absoulute truth. Most women will spend hundreds of dollars buying stupid fad toys (and yes that is all they are) that claim to give you the body of your dreams in 20 min a day for 6 weeks (not mentioning at the least that diet has alot to do with progress), women willl go and spend a shit load of money at the spa for a stupid body wrap that appears to work, but is actually just a expensive diruetic that works for maybe a week, but the cellulite reappears and they are back to square one. Women will starve themselves all week and then binge on the most fattest shit that they would'nt even normally eat on a reqular basis. Women will go to the gym and run and do the same cardio routine for months at a time and then wonder why they are not seeing any progress. Yes, women are definatley lacking in the self confidence area more than men when it comes to fitness. Yes, alot of women don't like to lift weight (mainly due to fact that it hurts...alot.) I could go on and on with this, mainly because I have went through most of the shit that WarLobo just mentioned up above. Eventually you learn from your mistakes and learn that all that time and money that you spend bullshitting was really just a waste. Some women never learn, and some actually buckle down and concentrate on getting the correct information on what they need to be doing. I have not responded to WarLobo's quote to bash women, (just in case I get a whole bunch of women jumping down my throat because they are offended by reading the truth about themselves...)...but the truth shall be told.

Determined Girl, I agree with ya of course. I myself never made any significant progress until I came across this website; although I tried for years. Knowledge IS power. We're a fortunate group here having discovered what really works, but then there's the dicipline factor to take into consideration...most women want an easy fix and aren't willing to do what it takes to make things really work long term.

I think most women fail because of two factors, #1 is a lack of knowledge (both in diet and in proper exercise) and #2 is lack of dicipline (for extended periods of time). Putting the two together is what really makes a difference in success or failure.

Warlobo -- while most women would consider your post a thump on the head; I do not. I actually sat there nodding my head as i went down the list.

A good example is the woman who sits next to me. About 50% fat, 5'9 and 260 pounds. Says she has a slow metabolism and cannot lose weight. It has NOTHING to do with the fact that she starves all day, come 2 pm, eats McDonalds for lunch about three times a week (during the work week) and then grabs candy and stuffs it in her mouth every single afternoon. The only protein she gets is that damn McD burger....and that aint protein.

Will she walk? NOPE, workout -- she does not have time.

Your words ring true -- but not for the wonderful women of this board.....

Exactly.

I am only 21, but I am sure that it took me years to even gain the willpower and disipline that I have now (and I still have to work on it everyday). My take on the whole thing is, obviously you don't want it bad enough if you don't put any effort into trying obtain the knowledge nessesary to succeed. As far as the disipline, I figured...no one is going to babysit you about your own body and why you should'nt have that snickers bar or that pint of ben and jerrys. If you know you lack motivation on a regular basis, then something should be done to keep that motivation going (and there are alot of options). What really kills me is, ok: when you have lost weight and another women (friend, coworker, whatever) comes up to you and says "Hey, You look good, what are you doing for your success? That first thing that pops into my head is "why?" "Even if I told you, you would'nt do it." I know that is a bad way to think, but it is the truth, because they will listen with a "good intention" ear, but won't do anything.

My last vent for today is, what is up with people getting liposuction, on....their thighs for instance. You look at the "after pics and their thighs look slim, but their belly and love handles are still hanging over the waistband? This makes me mad because it is another example of ill informed people trying to take the easy way out. And the surgeons that are performing the proceedure know damn well that it is a dumb move, but they don't care because they make their money off of people with lack of disipline anyway. Now your thighs are slim, but you look even worse now because you are all out of porportion. The point I am trying to make is that not only should you learn from your own mistakes, but you should also learn from other people's mistakes too. :wavey:
