Women and Carbs!!!

My question to you ladies or males is this. How does your body respond to starchy and complex carbohydrates? I would like to know your daily intake of both of these. Personally, I am super sensitive to carbs and have keep mine around 100gms or less a day. Even when I am on A.S. My body does alot better with omega3 and omega 6 fats. Those keep my energy levels high and muscle bellies full. Any responces would be appreciatted! :)

Nobody's answered, but I thought I respond affirmative since I bitch about this all the time...

...starchy carbs show themselves on my body within hours!!!

I did an experiment at work....this asian guy I used to work with is naturally skinny...and he eats pasta and french fries all day, little f-er!

So we made a bet...I ate exactly the same things two days in a row...but the first day, fibrous carbs only...then we pinched my stomach...

...the second day, I ate a white potato with two meals in place of the fibrous carbs...but everything else the same...we pinched my stomach again...

...guess what?

....excess water/fat or whatever made the second day's pinch significantly bigger.

This may prove nothing but that starchy carbs make you hold water...but I work too hard to obscure my results with that crap!

feel the same as Strongchick- starchy's take the definition away, for me anyway- not worth the work of days after with major water & cardio to get it back.
Veggies much better for seeing the results of hard work- fill me up more too. Starchy carbs are too easy to overeat- gave 'em up- really don't miss them- outa sight, outa mind.

the only way I can get my outer thighs, hips, abs to sculpt out is to cut the starchy carbs. Yeah, it is A LOT of work for only a few moments of tasting whatever! Higher protein-lower carbs...works for me.

I've seen the best results with low carbs on a contest diet but had a bad rebound when I went back to eating higher carbs. This worries me because I don't want to think I have to eat less-than-normal amounts of carbs for the rest of my life. And what about the risk of creating an intolerance to carbs? What do you all think?

carbs are the devil, i swear. one pasta dinner will stay in me <bloat> for about 2 days. my reaction to carbs is so terrible my hands and feet blow up also. on the rare occasion i have a "carb craving", the next morn i wont even be able to bend my fingers. damn the bread.

jessyca =P~

Hey,

I was wondering for the people on this thread who have bloating after what seems to be the slightest bit of pasta. Were you like this before you started cutting out the carbs from your diet? I am a TOTAL carb addict, I love it all!! if I could only eat pasta, rice and baked potatos for the rest of my life that would be just fine. I don't get bloated after a huge bowl of pasta or a potato but I do have some extra flab that I think that cutting out my massive (and I am not kidding I live off the stuff) carb intake might help. I just wanted to know if I will start getting bloated as well after not eating carbs for some time if I just want to have a little "cheat meal" once a week. Will I have to give up carbs forever to get the body that I want? Is it possible for people's body's to react differently to carb intake? :(

I don't have any big reaction to simple carbs. (must be all that poi I ate as a kid) Since complex carbs are a good 1/3 of my diet, I seem to need them, especially if I want endurance energy.

But, I always balance out my meal with protein and fat--I do try to avoid eating just fat and carbs together.

but to burn fat--I try for that " more calories expended than ingested" thingie.

red-everyone is different. Some women are carb sensitive and others can eat carbs like crazy and have no bloating or such sensitivity to them. It all just depends on metabolism, genetics etc, all sorts of factors. Are you training now??? and what are your specific goals? If you are looking to tone or just simply shape up, yes you may need to cut back on carbs, but you will not have to eliminate them completely. You have to play around with your diet and see what best works for your body, what works for me, may not work for you. Thats why dieting is SO individual....and takes time to figure out how you react to certain foods etc.

Hey thanks for the info. I feel a little better now I was freaking out a little at the thought of giving up my beloved pasta its the only vice I have left. My immediate goals are to both drop 20 lbs and tone up a bit I have a good base to start with so I think that form what I have read here cutting down on my carbs will be my next move towards my goals.

Thanks again :D
