My husband suggested that since I'm being laid off that maybe I should try training for a competition. I never really considered it but since I won't be working, maybe it's a consideration.

But, I don't know where to start or even what to do. I am NOT coordinated & wear glasses (contacts not an option) so I don't think I could do flips or stuff like that.

Any suggestions on research?

Powerlifting?(I'm bias) What's your past sports like? Honestly powerlifting is fun and everyone helps out at meets and you would have plenty of help here as well.

My past sports are basically nil. I never played sports as a child, my mom thought it was too "dangerous" so I wasn't allowed. I don't feel I'm coordinated enough to do flips & gymnastics and I don't feel that I'm thin enough to do figure.

Never thought about powerlifting. That may be something to look into.

powerlifting might be something to consider. it's very rewarding to set and accomplish personal strength goals. and the support among the athletes is astounding.

nova fitness is also very cool. VDOP and i have watched the nova fitness comp in dallas the past couple of years while at powerlifing comps. it's an awesome display of physical fitness and strength.

alot of fitness gals never did gymnastics, but are great dancers & use power moves in their routine-- just something to think about. Also, I really like the figure competitions- check out the NPC website for dates & details.

Personally, i wouldnt do PL tournys because the strength involved seemed intimadating to me...but if thats your goal- go for it!!!

I've been asked by fellow gym members, "What are you training for?" I'm never quite sure what to say...as of late, I've been saying that I just want to be a strong chick! I enjoy the Oly lifts, PL'ing style and more recently the Strongman type training...lots of fun!

Whatever you decide, don't let your glasses hold you back! You can get some sporty goggles if you need to! Just a thought.

Good idea for the goggles Nonerz! Hope they make prescription ones.

Thanks for the suggestions! Trying to find something to do with myself once on the dole...
