What to do when sick ?

Hi All.

Hope everyone had a happy & healthy easter. I am sick as a dog, I can't keep anything in my stomach other than water, broth, & maybe a few crackers. everything else comes right back up.

I am going to take a complete week off from weight training, just to fully rest since I feel so weak.

Will taking a full 7 days off from training be bad for my body ? I mean in a week will you start to get soft ?

Thanks !!! :qt:

You'll need to recover... "evacuation syndrome" can really do a number on you....

Take some time off....

You might FEEL softer, but 7 days won't make a long term difference. Most of what you "gain" or "feel" will be bloat or water retention. usually, wehn you are sick, you drink little fluid and eat mostly carbs (comfort food) - this will cause temporary water retention.

DO NOT STRESS ABOUT IT. You need to out 110% into getting better, not worrying about how you look.

I was right there with you last week...in fact spent the night in the ER (two times in one week..what a friggin' record) but due to "evacuation syndrome" (love that btw) couldn't keep anything down...ended up passing out...bla bla. Try and keep hydrated. I'm JUST NOW getting back in the gym as well as being able to eat more than your diet consists of now. It all started a week ago today. I totally empathize with you. That funk kept me in bed for a week....just don't trip and break your fingers. Not a good combo. :worried:

Feel better soon... :rose: :rose: :rose: :rose:

"bad for your body" -- your body will determine what it needs to do if you don't let it, i.e. if you feel you are getting "soft" because you've been laying in bed and getting sick all day, imagine how it will react if you try to train too? Trust me, your body will MAKE you take a week off or more if you don't let it funnel its energy and resources to recovery from what ails you instead of getting in some extra sets at the gym. (Not to mention the various germs you may deposit while pumping those sets...)

Definitely give yourself some time to recover.

I dont mean to intrude but since this is the sick thread i have a quick question

i have the beginning of a cold; like runny nose and chest feels like something is sitting on it. My glands are swollen. Im very winded and debating whether or not to go to the gym tonight and do legs. I did cardio for about 40 mins on elyptical and then bike for 25 mins- the reason i switched to bike is because i had trouble breathing. so heres the question - since it is the second day but first real day of feeling it; should i go since its early on and hang with it or what?
If yes go to the gym the when should i not go? or just when i feel so horrible i cant or what?

I think it's do to the season's changing... I'm feeling ROUGH today. My sinuses are draining and I feel my throat beginning to hurt. I just hiked up the water intake, hot tea, (hot chocolate) :). I'm going to get a massage and hit the gym.

I decided to go to the gym but maybe just do some not so intense stuff like maybe more cardio like more bike. Plus im going to drink lots of water and take some more vitamin c.

I thought my allergies were acting up due to cleaning in the basement the other day & kicking up dust.....However I think it's turning into a cold -- went to the gym tonite even tho I don't feel good -- felt weird when I was sweating too. Didn't do cardio, but I did chest/abs & walked there -- glad I went, but I still feel blech!
