What happens in women hormonally in the 2-3 days prior to period?

Watch it folks, PMS are my initials. hehehehe;)

Alot of what happens to me, depends on where I'm at BF-wise. I've noticed that when I have been higher than 12%, my periods are a bear. By "a bear" means higher water retention, a bit sluggish. That's it. When I'm at the 10-12% area, very little problems.

This is what I've noticed in me. Oh, and right before the ol' cycle is that "you've got that mating feeling..." (sung to the tune of "You've Lost That Loving Feeling")....big time. *snicker*

Exactly...regarding the progesterone. In fact, for me, the day it drops IS the day the cycle starts over. However, I have never had PMS symptoms either, other than bloating. I don't think I've ever had a cramp. Sometimes my nails will get oily and break off easily. That's about it.

If I did like you so much I would have to hate you.

:D

If she's on oral contraceptives then all the rules change somewhat. Definitely the sugar pills kicking in as the (mainly) estrogen levels and to a smaller extent progesterone levels plummet. Less progesterone=less fluid retention. OCs over ride her natural hormones big time.

Isn't there some evidence to support that OC's not only override her natural hormones, but they replace them such that your body stops producing its own estrogen and progesterone? I remember reading that on this board...

The lower in bodyfat I am, the fewer PMS symptoms I get. 5-HTP helps too, though.

I'm pretty much this way all the time...but right before my period I get it baaaaaad! My hands and feet are typically swollen, but just in the last year, I've really noticed a lot of bloating going on...not to mention my "mailman" skips his usualy deliveries. No packages...which kinda freaks me out so I end up guzzling water, ating prunes, and downing a couple cups of coffee in hopes of stimulating the delivery!

Probably more than you wanted to know about me but hey, my nipples are tender, feet swollen and I'm hornier than hell!:mix:

So is it the estrogen or the progesterone (or a combination of both) that cause the fluid retention? Which causes it to a greater extent?

And, if you were to inhibit one or the other, would it negate the contraceptive effects of the bc pill?

Do you find 5-htp to curb carb cravings?
