what do you mix your protein with?

i'm about to order a few lbs of whey isolate, multidextrin and dextrose from supplementdirect.com and was wondering what is good to mix it with? anyone have the recipe for those great tasting isopure rtd's? i don't want to mix with milk or any kind of fruit juice. is there something i can get that tastes good but has no carbs/sugars? thanks for any info.

yeah, water, of course. haven't tried the flavor-less whey isolate from supplementdirect.com yet, so that may be fine, but the vanilla isopure or the vanilla 100% whey tastes like shit with water.

there must be something with artificial sweeteners/flavoring that i can mix with the protein?

What about blending your vanilla flavored proteins with half a banana and a tbsp of ANPB?

Crystal Light comes in TONS of flavors, most being sugar and calorie free. Or at least VERY minimal cals.

Sugar Free, Fat Free Pudding or Jello mix. Put a tiny bit in, and it flavors the whole shake. Like 1/2 teaspoon is enough.

I do like shakes with udo's or a high quality flax oil (cold pressed/high lignan). Roasted peanut oil is tasty, for a change.

Before I started cutting, the best shake was 1frozen banana, 1tbspn PB, and chocolate whey powder...How I miss those...

thanks for all the great suggestions. i think i will try the cystal light (hope that's not gay) and also some fat/sugar free jello.

forgive my ignorance, what are UDOs?

While I'm cutting, I'm not sure a banana or even PB would be a good idea, but while bulking that's great.

UDO's oil is a mix of EFA's, you can get it at any health food store.

mmmm. psyllium husk... *drool* he he he

seriously though, will that prevent an insulin spike or is it just to add a little fiber?

pro powder+gplenish+fish/flax/olive oil+taurine+some other neutraceuticals=nerve numbing mixture - just imagine being someone else, otherwise it'll end up in front of you :o

yeah doing the ckd the psyllium hust keeps things moving. It's bassically just pure fiber.

oh yeah, will adding in the EFA prevent the insulin spike that protienfiend was talking about?

Adding EFA's and/or fiber to a low-carb protein shake will slow down its absorbtion and it won't induce any insulin spikes.

1tbsp of UDO's is a good amount to add to a shake, if you want to do it.

Very true...........I toss in a tb of flax in all my shakes (except PW), and def. in my MRP mid-am.............

It is called maltodextrin :)

Anyway, there are MANY options here...

1) Maltodextrin/Dextrose (great for post workout glycogen restoration)
2) oats (lower GI)
3) Healthy fats like almond/peanut butter, flax oil (Barlean's and Udo's), coconut oil (rich in MCT's), etc
4) Fruits (strawberries/blueberries)

There are MANY other options. Work according to YOUR needs and caloric intake and enjoy looking good :D

:supercool

How long does Flax oil stay good...I have had a bottle for a really long time, like over a year. I couldn't stomach the taste anymore, but I am thinking of starting it up again in my shakes to mask the taste of it some. I used to just take a shot of it out of a tablespoon...UGH!! It has been refrigerated since the day it was first opened...

Thanks,
PinkPanther

An opened flaxseed oil bottle is good for a week, 10 days tops - the polylipids are rather unstable, refregirating only attenuates the break down for so long, when the oil is exposed to environment try to consume it as fast as you can :o

Although a week may be "technically accurate", I use a bottle for 2-3 weeks easily.....no ill effects.........all good.....some people dont keep meat in the fridge for more than 2 days....I go a week............it's all relative...lol....
