Tuna/Slamon etc

Alot of people here i'm assuming make tuna and salmon and tinned fish part of their daily protein count food wise
however i'm trying to keep my sodium down but i find that tinned fish is just full of sodium
so is tinned fish bad or should it be kept to a minimum?

Why does dieting have to be complicated like this and expensive lol cos all the zero sodium foods and fresh fish etc are inconvenient and expensive :(

in America, we call it canned, not tinned :p

Unfortunately, almost all canned, processed foods are high in sodium. Tuna, though great because of the EFA's and protein, packs about 30% sodium per "tin." Your best bet would be to buy the actual fish, but that becomes very costly in the long run. In the States, two fillets of salmon, run anywhere from $12-20 depending on the size. I normally cut each fillet in 4, giving me eight servings. Lastly, there have been several studies on the effects of mercury on large predatory fish. By large I'm referring to Albacore tuna, swordfish, etc. Now, this is where it really gets interesting. The tuna we buy are normally the smaller ones, however Mercury is still present, but in a much lesser extent. Short term there are no studies that I have seen about its effects but long term, Mercury isn't very nice. I try and limit my tuna consumption to one can ED or one EOD. I get most of my protein from chicken breast and steak :)

ahh, i wish i was still living with my family - i used to have fresh salmon or shark meat everyday, plus meat steaks...........................................................now some days i eat tuna 3 times a day -> i'm getting sick...university dieting sucks!!
in any case sodium is not any concern of mine...just drink a lot of water and teas(flavored water?!), besides if you're not getting fatter but at the same time stronger of the food you consume, then who 'kerres' about stuff like sodium?! i know you do because you need to cut up before fight....good luck! :D
