To Turn A Midget To A Man - ZgzaZ's Log -

I'm not convinced that eating clean has much value. Get enough protein and calories, add proper workouts and you'll gain. I add in vegetables and other healthy stuff for the health benefits, but add whatever I need if I'm short of my calorie goals (protein is never a problem...I'll add a big protein shake if I'm short). I don't care if it's ice cream or whatever that I add for more calories.

Don't believe me? Try reading about Dave Tate to see what a horrible diet a really, really strong guy consumed. He got enough protein and enough calories and the rest was crap. Read down to the "See Tate Eat" heading to see a typical day. It's amazing.

Now I'm not advocating eating only junk, as I say I try to get good fruits and vegetables. I just don't stress out if I have to add in a cookie or milk shake to get enough calories.

Wow, are you kidding?!? did you even read your own article? Eating clean has no value? Your example who goes by your stradegy is in TERRIBLE heath...from your text: "Also, with high cholesterol, high blood sugar, high liver enzymes, and a mess of other problems, it's about time I took care of this shit. But here's the problem". Eating clean has no value?? A lot of people eat clean because they don't want to look like shit like him. Look at the pictures, his gut sticks out so far he can't see his shoes. Not to mention the whole purpose of the article is that they are trying to get Tate to stop his ridiculous eating habits and lose some weight. But let's not forget, eating clean has no value....

Oh, I agree that I wouldn't want to eat like Tate. Eat 10,000 calories a day and I'd soon look like that too...just without the muscle. :worried:

The point is that he was able to get very strong with a caloric surplus and high protein intake even though he ate like crap. Dude totaled over 2200 as a power lifter. But if he ate 10,000 clean calories a day he'd have been just as fat.

What I'm saying is eat the healthy foods that you need, then get sufficient calories to have a modest surplus. Some people have a hard time doing this, so they need to get enough calories however they can. Tate obviously went overboard, and didn't start with a base of healthy food at all. ;)

okay, not to be rude lifting n tx, but I'd like to keep this thread about my log, as its easier for me to organize that way, so let's take the discussion to the diet forum or something. Thanks.

Nice progress so far. At your age you should be able to grow easily. Squats and Deads need to be more than bench but I bet you already know that - I would be willing to bet that (based on your workout notes) that you could rework your squat numbers and push that lift a bit harder. IMO by week 4 the triples should be a bitch so if they are going up easy I would rework my numbers. On my triples I need a spot or I set the saftey pins just in case and 2x this year I have had to use the spot or drop the weight.

I know squats/deads should be much higher than my bench. I've been bumping the squats 10lbs a week, and the deads 15-20lbs a week without a problem so far, so they will be above it in a few weeks, I just wanted to start a little lower to make sure my form stays solid and I stay injury free to progress far into PR's.

I'll do a couple set of triples next week for you, and if the first set (10lbs squats/20lb deads above my monday top set) are too easy, i'll bump it up and get the weight jumping a little faster.

Week 6 - Day 1 - 28th

Squats - 5x5 - 125x5, 145x5, 165x5, 185x5, 205x5
Flat Bench - 5x5 - 120x5, 145x5, 170x5, 195x5, 220x5
Rows - 5x5 - 95x5, 110x5, 120x5, 135x5, 150x5
Underhand/Overhand Grip Pullups - 2x10 Bodyweight

Will bump the squats 10-15lbs on my heavy triple this week, as they are still pretty easy. Flats felt good, no struggle on the last set on any reps, and rows the same.

good call....i think i need to do the same.....think i've been conservative with my 5lb bumps....time to get mean with it
