Thought on 1 Rep Max Lift

I have no intention of doing 1 rep max lifts again. I wanted to show to myself and others what I could do. I don’t think 1 rep max lifts help much in building your body. I will not try to lift anything that I don’t think I can lift at least 3-5 times. I tore my pec trying to lift 15 lbs. more than I did the week before, and on the same weight that I tried twice the week before (unsuccessfully, but without trauma that will change the next 1 year of my life)

Flat barbell bench was already something I didn’t train, and it will be something I stay farther away from in the future.

I respect power lifters and I think they can safely warm-up (which I did, but evidently not enough) and push themselves for those 4-6x per year (I think it is fair to say that generally power lifters shouldn’t max every week in the gym either). I am a bodybuilder and I hope I will still be one when I recover from surgery. I will not be lifting a weight I only hope to push up once.

I am not sure this belongs in this forum, but this is my public service announcement. I have learned from experience, I hope other can learn from my experience, because it is much better than learning this for yourself.

Of course as aways I could be just confused.

Good Luck.

Good post. I usually stay in the 3-5 range. Most of the people I know who've had bad injuries hurt themselves while maxing out. I am, as of yet, still injury-free.

How much did I get up? Well, I am sure it is not much by the standards of this board.
I guess I can say. I succeeded at 300 and failed catastrophically at 315.

Of course in addition to what I consider bodybuilding lessons, I got a lesson in humility and pride. You can help solidify this lesson by highlighting what measley poundage I was moving.

:-)

I hope I can be / become humble without future events that demand my humility.

It's all good. I hurt myself repping 215lbs when I fatigued, and ended up with the bar sitting on my chest screaming for help lol. Tried to get up and throw the bar off me and tore my back. This was way back when. :D

were u on cycle while doing this?? i ask bc sometimes the weight increases can not be handled by joints and tendons--its ur muscles that grow, nothing else
