The day...

b fold the truth

Elite Strongman
Platinum
I'm not completly for sure what exactly took place. Most of last Saturday is still a blur. It was really wild to see the pics and the video clips of me competing because for some of the events...it was the first time I had ever seen them. I do not remember doing the axle clean and press or the Conan's Wheel at all.

I do know that I won the Super Yoke and Tire Flip both in my class and in the overall and that I got 2nd in the deadlift both in my class and the overall. From there the day begins to get fuzzy. I remember doing the keg carry and sled drag then laying on the cold ground pouring water over my body for a while. Next thing I know they are calling my name to do the axle clean and press.

They moved so quickly through the events that my ONLY warm up on the deadlift was a quick run to the bar and doing 500 for a single and I got ZERO warm up on the axle press. They pushed 44 competitors through 5 events in 2 hours and 45 minutes. That equals nearly zero rest. None of the events were strength events either...they were all cardio type stuff and medleys, with those you need lots of rest...which we did not get. Everyone had to do it though...I just simply could not recover quick enough.

I set a PR on the yoke and tire flip as well as the deadlift for reps. I also set a decent time on the keg carry and drag for me. From watching the axle press clip (which is very scary to watch) I did set a PR on that event also.

From what I understand, after the axle press I fell down and may have went out for a while. I remember bits and pieces of the rest of the day. I was told that my eyes had rolled into the back of my head and I had began to drool on myself and all down my shirt. I remember the paramedics telling me that I could not finish the contest and me telling them "I didn't come all the way here to quit. I came to win...but I can not quit. I have one more event to do then I will do whatever you ask of me." They made me sign a release form immediately in order for me to do the Conan's Wheel because they said that it was against their professional judgement.

I remember sitting back down for a while then hearing them call for the Super Heavies to get ready for the Conan's Wheel. I asked if they had called my name and they said yes and that I had already done the Conan's Wheel. They also said that I did fairly well also.

I got an email earlier today saying that I placed 4th in my class and 5th overall. The number 1 ranked guy turned pro so that basically makes me ranked #4 right now. I am proud of that fact but upset because I know in my heart that I could have and WAS winning.

I just don't know the words quit...not in anything in my life. Even my best of friends seem to notice that in me...I just can't quit.

There are pics on my website that I believe that Crimson King has already posted. You can find them here:

The next major contest for me, hopefully, will be the New England Strongman Showdown in Boston, Mass...in February. I do know that the Heavyweight winner of that contest has the OPTION to turn pro if he so chooses.

Here is a link to that contest:

This was the award that they gave me...

Thank you all...for many many things...

We are so very proud of you and as a mother I am a little dismayed that you continued but I also understand. If you need ANYTHING to help you get to New England you can count me in.

C.....I am so very proud of what you accomplished. The determination you have only means one thing.....it won't be long for victory to be yours. I have always been told these things are learning experiences. Bigger things await you my friend.

Let me know if I can help in February.

Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help support you for the New England contest.

Same goes for me man. I'm sorry to say I was unable to send you anything except the words "good luck" for this contest, but perhaps in February I can do something more.

Again, excellent job at the contest. I see no shame in being ranked #4.

No rest - that's crappy, organisers should be shot

Well I guess this is something you should be prepared for in the future -

4th is just as good as first, if you gave it your all. I watched the videos and you gave it everything you had. You should be proud of yourself, because I know I am.

You will also have experience from this event, on how better to control your strength and endurance as to perform optimally on ALL the events and not just going balls to wall on one and not having the juice to last the rest of the contest. This is only the beginning for you
