Technique question

Do you guys lock out at your joints in various exercises. I'm quite inexperienced and I've been told recently like for chest exercises pretend your hugging a fat girl: elbows always bent for flyes and presses. Would the same go for. I locking out knees on squat and deadlier?

Thanks guys

Wynter

It depends, If I'm going heavy on things like OHP or bench. i lock out. If i want to keep constant tension, I stop just shy of lockout. I don't do flyes or chest so I cant comment on that but I would keep elbows bent somewhat,

hugging a fat girl? that is the worst way to describe bench technique iv'e ever heard. You want to feel like your bending the bar or pulling it apart to engage your lats, upper back, and triceps. As for locking out, thats up to you. Some bodybuilders will not full lockout the movement all that time to keep the muscles under tension. I have done this for squatting and benching but would not recommend it for the deadlift. If your training for strength i would lock everything out.

I dont know lol. perhaps he likes fat girls, but thats what he always says. I try to engage as much of my body as possible when lifting. I think i was starting to get my technique right cuz the first time i believe i did it with proper form my arms, chest, upper back, and core were all sore for like 5 days. I will stop hugging fat girls and lockout my arms seeing as i want strength most

If you want to bench for strength i highly recommend typing "so you think you can bench" in youtube. Look for any info on the interwebs from guys like dave tate.
