tanning while pregnant?

Can a pregnant woman tan? One doctor I went to said NO TANNING at all. It can over heat the baby. He wasn't sure about the UV rays. Then I went to another doctor who told me that the UV rays weren't the problem and agreed that it may cause the baby to over heat. BUT...he also said that if I am properly hydrated that it should be safe to go into a bed for 10 minutes. Just drink, drink, drink. Any input from any of you?

Thanks,

I remember when I was pregnant that the doctor said no sauna's or hot baths. I'm not sure what the head does to the baby, but tanning in an normal bed certainly raises your body temp. One salon I used to go to had a premium bed (at a premium price of course) with all kinds of fans and blowers hitting you at all different angles...I didn't sweat at all in that one. I don't know about the UV rays at all...try doing a search on google.com and see if you can find any info. there.

I had been tanning for about a year, but stopped 2 months ago after a little scare...I have a mole and when I was taking a bath, I rubbed it with a washcloth and it started to bleed. I need to get it looked at since it happened again last week.

It's a BIG no-no.

Your body temperature already goes up when pregnant (along with blood volume and pressure) - don't add to it.

No-nos are tanning beds, hot tubs and whirlpools. Apparently overheating increases the chances of birth defects.

Besides - why add more stress to already stressed and stretched skin?

Use a sunless tanner if you must be tan and hold off til the baby's out of the cooker.

Hope it turns out to be nothing. My mother-in-law had a cancerous mole remove and everything has been aok.

Have you thought of trying the 60 second Spray tan.....I love it, a little more $$ but worth it, your not damaging you skin, or your baby, call around to your tanning salons and ask if any of them offer it, worth a try! I know how it feels not to tan, it sucks!!.

Great idea but to much money! $75 and it last for only a week. I only have two months to go. Did you get good results from the spary on tan? I have a wedding to go to in June. Maybe hubby will pick up the exspense.
