sharp pain on side/front delt for 3wks

I am on week 3 of SL5X5, ever since I started I have had a horrible pain on my left shoulder that wont go away, I cant even lay on my left side, it hurts when I do certain everyday movements, particulalry taking a tshirt off hurts because I cant bring my left arm over to my right like when your going to take a tshirt off, or any movement which involves extending the arm or flexing my delt.

It hurts on the top part of the side deltoid, and like when i go take a shirt of it hurts on the top of the front deltoid, kinda where they both meet the front ad the side....hurts like hell, and wont go away, any ideas what it might be and how to get rid of it?

Thanks

prob a partial tear or a strain...STOP WORKING OUT NOW...give it two weeks off..ice and heat daily..i went thru same thing but didnt stop and was out of gym for 18 months couldnt lift shit...dont be dumb just rest

I agree. It could be a rotator cuff issue or shoulder impingement from being out of alignment.

I would do what Hayez says and also see a chiropractor and describe your symptoms.

You might also see a doctor if it's painful to the point you can't even lay on it.

I started out on 5/20 for the 1st time, 1st couple days just messed around trying to figure out where my weight was at, without much i got 150 1rm bench with some help, 130 on my own so i figure im at 140, but i wonder if while doing all this i wasnt ready for that immediate strain, or maybe i wasnt using proper posture.

All I know is even as i type this as my left arm moves i feel an occasional cramp/stabbing on the delt depending on the movement....ok so this isnt just part of starting out, this is some kind of strain?

you def have somethign going on...dont work out...do some cardio for next few weeks to get ur body active and moving...if ur new to gym ur tendons and muscles have no clue whats going on...baby steps or u will fuck ur self up good...got insurance go to docs

i didnt think this was right, its def not soreness, its a sharp stabbing pain, kinda like if you ever had where your foot gets a cramp and you have to relax to let it ease.

its def not rotator bcus ive partially injured my right rotator cuff back 14yrs ago....and yet my right shoulder is perfectly fine....i have been able to do my workout without much bother or pain, just position my arm to where the delt is relaxed.

I knew at 3wks still hurting, something wasnt right, and yeah cant lay on my left side at all by any means.

A guy over on stronglifts fb page said i should do "shoulder dislocations", which i did about 20 earlier, he suggested to do that as warm ups....on my off days i was also doing the one (dont know what its called) where you extend your arms out and do 10-15 foward circular rotations, and 10-15 backward circular rotations, i do that just to keep the shoulders conditioned.

So, doing shoulder dislocations or this other one will just prolong the damage rather than help in in any way?......total rest?

Dont fuck around with your shoulders. I abused my shoulders and I havn't been able to train since july 2010. I'm getting prolotherapy treatments currently so I can get back to training ASAP. I had a treatment this morning infact. Almost 150 injections between the two shoulders. <<<< SO BE CAREFUL!!!

The spot your describing could be multiple things. Partial tear, sprain, strain....your neck muscles have alot to do with that area too. If you have insurance go see a doc. I would opt for a muscoskeletal specialist. Not a doc or even an ortho...there IS a difference. But if your seeing an ortho make sure its a sports ortho that deals with atheletes. Alot of them are just plain retarded. They want to give you a cortisone injection and send you on your way.

ALSO.....listen up!!.....if your a beginner.....Take some of us old injured guys advice.....do this :
YouTube - ‪DieselCrew.com - Shoulder Rehab Protocol‬‏

Make time for it....learn it...DO IT!!!

Do warmups , like the side abductions and cubans before chest and shoulder workouts too. If your rotator muscles and tendons are warm and full of blood then you cut your risk of injury WAY down.
