Question about bread?

Ok I've been really missing having sandwiches.....don't know why but I have...

Is it ok, if I have 1 slice of bread with some lean turkey slices?? Or is that too processed?? We always buy the sunflower, flax seed oil bread, not white....but I've been craving a sandwich LOL...

No harm in planning a cheat meal, or part of a cheat meal every once in awhile. Have a sandwich with your green veggies/salad instead of plain chicken breast....if it is PLANNED into your day, it won't hurt your efforts....as long as it's in moderation.

It's all about what helps you keep your sanity........ :)

What about the low carb bread?
Here where i live they have a bread with one carb, from Julian Bakery. It has tons of grains and flax in it.

Just keep in mind that to make "low carb" anything, something else has to fill in the difference. As noted before, anything in moderation won't destroy a diet, but don't make this stuff a basic component of your diet.

It was rough for me to give up sandwiches too, but I got used to it and now only have them sometimes on cheat days. I love a turkey sandwich with some thick grainy bread piled with lettuce, tomato, mayo, and cheese... mmmm...
I think it all depends on your goals. If you are looking to eat well and keep off those extra pounds then a sandwich won't harm you as long as you're not eating white bread. If you're looking to further commit yourself to more of a bodybuilding lifestyle, then boot the sandwiches unless they are cheat meals. Everything in a sandwich is really too processed for a bodybuilding diet except for the lettuce and tomato. I would never tell someone that sandwiches are "bad" unless they want to take this extra step.

Nice post.

Only thing I'll add as far as the anti-white bread, is that regular wheat bread isn't much better for you. I am talking about the basic store-bought wheat - NOT the whole grain stuff. Your basic store-bought wheat is only marginally better than white. Now, the whole grain, grainy stuff IS much better for you.

But if you are looking for a cheat meal - white is fine, if we are talking about 1 sandwich, like once every couple weeks.

I ate 2-3 sandwiches/week in college while I lived on campus because it was usually one of the few quick, easy, healthy things to grab in between classes on my super busy days @ the dining hall/a-la-carte place and take with me to eat in class. (Usually turkey, lettuce, sprouts, green pepper on a whole wheat wrap lasted me two meals, they were huge...we had Healthy Choice turkey breast @ the delis so it wasn't too bad). Yeah, the turkey is processed and any hardcore body builder would give it a big NO. But I think in the case of a lot of us, lean lunch meat like turkey is fine sometimes as long as it doesn't become your main protein source. There are far worse things I've heard of people eating. That was when I was in the best shape of my life and a varsiy athlete, and it certainly helped me.
