OHP question

JOKER47

While doing standing push-presses today, I got to my last set of 3. No problem hitting the reps, but after I racked the bar I noticed and intense shooting pain in my left wrist. I moved my wrist around a lttle bit, and it finally "cracked" back into place.(?) There was no pan at all after that.

I missed my next lift attempt, but the same thing with my wrist happened. "Cracked" it back into place, and moved on in my workout. No more pain, no more issues. But, no more OHP pressing at that point, either.

I was thinking it might be due to my grip width. It was the inside of my wrist, and with my ring finger on the power ring, my wrist tends to bend towards me a little bit.

Does anyone have any ideas? Had this happen before? What dod you do, if anything to alleviate it? I am concerned that as my OHP goes up in weight, that some permanent damage could happen.

Any advice is appreciated.

joker......... i know your getting ready for the strongman contest. you need to bring your grip in closer. i know you have been training powerlifting style, but leg involvement is a big factor and a must, especially on the viking press. so learning how to use your legs works as a bench shirt, it pushes the bar up half way, then its just a tricep lockout from there. bring your grip in, try thumb touching the smooth , and try your pressing from there.

You can't use a super wide grip on the Viking Press!!!!!! You grip is toooo wide for overhead press man...

Thanks man. I was afraid that might be it. I will bring my grip in and try it out.

My leg drive isn't to bad, but can always use improvement.:)

I do ohp with my hands at about an inch and a half outside the smooth....and i flex my wrists back hard...which sometimes causes me pain....but I have broken both wrists so i always just figured it was that

Absolutely! I do them sitting, and the rack is in front of the bench, so it tires my upper back just racking the bar after my reps.

the cracking sound is the ulna and radial head coming back together in alignment. this mean that you wrist is in a compromised position and the bones are spread out during the lift, most likely du to the wrist being bent back at a akward angle. Bring the writ grip in and during comp try to tape your wrist, I use to do this while catching and powercleaning.
