just thought i would share my pain

i will never and i repeat never do calve raise on a box with the smith mac.bro's i have never been so scared in my life was on top of the box doing my warm up 220lbs about the 5th rep the box kicked out lost my balance the bar came down hit the back of my neck bounced up hit again bounced then hit again by this time i am down on a knee and the weight hooked in now i thak god for such a huge neck, shoulders and back.god do i feel dumb
 
thats one exercise i dont do. i saw a guy do the same thing, but it didnt bounce off of him, he just went down with nothing to stop him.
 
I am not an advocate of the smith, but aren't there locks on the side to limit the range of motion for the bar? they act like the safety bars on a power rack
 
shit. thats dangerous. Yeah my gym finally coghed out the cash for a real calf raise. So i dont do those much anymore.
Hope everythings okay. You should check to make sure you didnt fracture any vertebre.
 
yeah i am fine it was a little sore right after but now its fine it hurt my ego more then anything there was a good bit of people in the gym at the time and it was the same people who watch me throw crazy weight around every day and there i go slip and fall with a little 220 i try to stay away from the smith as much as i can (and yes there is locks them little rubber stopers but i don't use them for light weight or warm ups)my gym does have a older style calf raise but its to easy not enough weight i think its from the 1960's am sure you know the one you put the belt on and hook in and there is like 3 steps for different levels:fro:
