Inline Skating for Cardio???

Hi Ladies! I am hoping for a few opinions on whether or not inline skating is alright as my sole source of cardio in the summer? I used to be an avid runner but now due to a knee injury I can no longer run (Well I guess I can run, but if I do I pay for it for a week at least!). Anyway I really missed doing cardio outdoors in the summer so I just bought a wicked new pair of Salomon inline skates. I have been skating 4-5 times/week for between 30 minutes and 2 1/2 hours, varying it each time. There are some hills on the path I skate, and I keep my pace up. I also do sprints alternating all out sprinting with an easy pace. Boy does it ever work my ass! Which is good news for me because my ass is my weak point in that I don't have much of an ass! (It has actually visibly grown from skating in the past 2 weeks, I love it!) I am hoping that as long as it stays nice outside I can rely on my skates for cardio all summer long, as there is nothing worse than doing cardio indoors on a beautiful day. Thanks Ladies:)

Blading is excellent cardio! I haven't done it since I almost got killed by a corvette in FL, but i can definitely appreciate a long balls-to-the-wall skate in the sun! No way you could pay me to do it where I live now but it is killer on the ham / glutes! Just make sure you don't take your skates thru water -- that messes them up real good.

^^^^ HECK YEAH GURL!!!! I bladed everywhere a few summers ago ... ahhhh, ya watch out for them potholes & wild drivers :) & twigs ... my knees are permanently skinned (and NOT from rug burn!!!) :) No I don't wear the knee pads, helmut, etc

There's a mile long paved path by the resevoir here - great to skate on. Also, an outside paved track around our stadium, with some gradual hills.

It is - literally - a kick @$$ workout!!

Do you have a heart rate monitor?

It's great cardio.
Sit low on your knees, butt over heels and do really long deep strides and you'll get a killer butt work out too.
Also, get carbon tipped cross country ski poles is you want to change it up and do some cross country blading.

Yay! I was hoping the feedback would be positive! Well then, it looks like I am going to be getting an awesome tan this summer, and an even better ass! Thanks girls. (And to think cardio is no longer something to spend my entire day dreading!)
