Getting Very Discouraged

I have read, stuck to my diet, cardio, and heavy lifting still after a month the scale has not moved. The only thing that's happened is my waist is smaller....

What is wrong? I am not expecting miracles but I could have at least expected 4 or 5 pounds to come off...

It shouldn't be this difficult to lose just a couple of pounds after pregnancy!

Should I go to a personal trainer????

If your waist is getting smaller, then you're doing fine! You're probably just replacing the fat with muscle, which won't make the scale go down but you'll see it in inches. :)

Go by your measurements, not by the scale. If your waist measurement is down, you've obviously made progress.

Keep in mind, if you're losing weight the right way (IOW slowly so you keep it off by gradually introducing your body to new, lower fat setpoints), it takes time. A month isn't very long, considering most of us do 12-16 week diet cycles. Patience, sweetie, patience! It sounds like you're doing everything right. :-)

Since your waist is smaller, I would have to agree with what is said here....that you are indeed losing BODYFAT. The scale movement is negiligible as your body is putting on muscle...which weighs more than fat -- volume-volume.

So while the scale is a tool ... right now you may wish to stay off of it and just judge by how your clothes fit and by taking measurements weekly. Also, as you build muscle, your body may hold some intramuscular water at times (for example, after a heavy leg work out -- I cannot wear snug jeans for a day or two -- the blood and water the surges to the area is enough to keep me in relaxed clothing).

I would say in a month -- you have already seen progress but really it is not alot of time at all. Revel in the fact, that you are consistently making good and postive changes in your goal of fitness.

I say be proud of yourself!

Tan,

Keep going! As everyone has already said, the measurements are what count, and your measurements show PROGRESS! Don't give up. When you least expect it, you'll wake up one morning, look in the mirror, and notice visually that your hard work is beginning to give you some awesome results! That's the way it works for me. Whether it is in regards to trying to cut or trying to gain more muscle, the results seem to come all of a sudden and after awhile of plodding along (frustration at this included). Sounds to me like you're getting there. You must be doing a lot right if you are losing fat and gaining muscle at the same time!

Hi Tan

My free advice is to get an unbiased friend or personal trainer to monitor your progress. You are the WORST person alive to judge your own progress. You may or may not be making great progress, but you really need someone else's input IMHO.
