Deadlifts... Sumo vs. Regular

I have really long legs and short arms. For some reason, I can't dof conventional deadlifts with the right form because the bar keeps hitting my knees. I can do sumo deadlifts with decent form.
So, my question is... how much more effective (if at all) are conventional DLs over sumo DLs?

well, i did sumos today at my house
(all i have for equipment at home is an olympic bar and weights)
after, i was so tired that i struggled keeping my back straight during bent over rows
here was my routine

sumo deads - 5x5
barbell curls 5x5
bent over rows 2x8

btw, are there any other good back/bicep workouts you can do with just a barbell?

Long time no talk to buddy,
Shove the barbell in the rafters and do chinups...
The only equipment I had when I was 18 was an olympic bar, an olympic EZ curl bar and a couple misc light dumbells...
I'd jam the EZ curl bar in the rafters in my garage and crank out chin ups... I'm pretty sure the olympic bar could handle your weight...

whats up man
i gotta reinstall msn messenger so we can talk again

anyway, yea, the olympic bar could def handle my weight, but could the rafters?
im 220 lbs now

oh yea, and i have access to a gym, but its not worth doing deadlifts at that place

you would not believe how many people tell me in one sesssion that what im doing is bad for my back
then i'm like "do you even know what excercise im doing?" then they say "never've seen it before"

also, i always have to wait about 30min for the one power rack in my gym because there is always an asshole hanging from it and doing ab work

so, i figured that i would be much better off if i moved my bis/back day to my house

The Rafter can definitely handle your weight... they hold the roof up dude :D

I had mine square in the middle of the flimsiest rafters in the world.. just try to find a nice sturdy few close to a wall... You'll be fine... if you can get some wide grip chins in your workout you;d have a complete back routine from home!

You may be setting the bar up too close to your shins before pulling...
