deadlift for the tall buggers!

Guys, how do you get away with deadlifts when the bar hits your knees or ankles? because my arms are so damn long :(

Any help is appreicated!
Atm, im using a hammer strength squat base, which works great but I'd like to do some stiff leg free weight ones
 
I don't know how tall you are but I'm 6'2" (1.9 meters) and the bar always hits my shins. Unfortunatly that's life, the weight needs to be as close as possible to your body or else you may compromise your lower back. Maybe someone else knows how to spare your knees and shins from getting scraped.

I guess, you gotta just try and live with it.......Arnold, Big Lou were both tall and I'm sure they did deadlifts all the time. Just try and get used to it I guess. I'm 6'0 and don't have that problem?? I would be interesed to know how many people 6'0 and up have this problem?
 
im 6'2" and have long ass arms. the day after deadlifts my knees feel like they were beaten with a bat. i think its unavoidable. i figure its just a price you have to pay. do you want to be stronger with a few bumps and bruises, or weaker with no pain. i guess thats why they say no pain no gain.
 
I know what you mean with your shins getting trahed. I haven't done them in a while, but I used to bring shin pads with me, so I could really concentrate on lifting, and not the fact of trying not to bang my shins. It works pretty well if you don't care about what your looking like.
 
I think your technique may have a bit to do with it. I've seen guys straighten out theirs knees just before they straighten out their hips. This way their shoulders stayed slightly in front of their knees until the knees got out of the way. This may be out of form so try using very light weight when you play with the timiing of the extensions.

Blood, tears, chalk, and screaming. That is a great day in the gym. I have scars all up my shins from deads, it is just something you have to face in order to do the exercise.

not easy, but then again the hammer strength squat base is good!
