i normally have no trouble tossing 50-60% of my max with chains or bands, but tonight i decided i wanted to work up to a heavy 3 and when i hit the weight i stopped at, it didnt really feel heavy but my speed was horrible. i was using chains and whenever i start to workup my speeds starts to really decrease.

yes....

i have had this happen a few times. i can take a few guesses.

1. the point of speed day is not to do max lifts. That is the ME day. If you went heavy your last ME day, you are going to be a little fatigued already.

2. 8 triples with appropriate weight and short rest is going to fatigue you even though the weight feels light! Remember, in theory you are exerting as much power moving 40 - 50 % (+ bands and chains) as you do when you move max weight. P = F / T. Do you think you could do 5 sets of 5 at 90% even if you could do one set? No, because you are fatigued.

3. If you are doing it right, you are using less than 50% of your 1RM and you should be flailing that weight off your chest like it weighs nothing. To try and shift gears and make a weight that is 70 - 85% of your 1RM move that fast is not possible. Don't expect it to move like your speed weight otherwise you would have been able to use that for your speed weight :)

hope this helps.
