cardio vs. diet???

hey guys, i was pondering this one and wanted to see if you guys could help out... are these 2 scenarios equivalent....

1. Person eats 2,300 calories and just lifts

2. Person eats 3,200 calories does 45 mins cardio pre and post workout (approx 900 calories burned in the 2 cardio sessions)

is there a difference or no??

Yes there is a difference. In situation number 2 the person is not only burning calories but also improving their cardio health. 45 of minutes of cardio pre-workout would take up too much of my energy and my lifts would suffer though. I personally think that number 2 would be the best solution I would just space out the cardio more.

no they are not equivalent

1. Person eats 2,300 calories and just lifts
this depends on the persons BW and LBM, overall this person would be at about 2200 cal w/ a high level of anabolism and muscle fiber growth due to the lifting

2. Person eats 3,200 calories does 45 mins cardio pre and post workout (approx 900 calories burned in the 2 cardio sessions)
this person would NOT surely burn all the calories from fat, so a LOT of catabolism would be in place; thus, the lost muscle would outweight the benefit of doing the cardio

is there a difference or no??
yes there is, you should do 2500cal w/ minor cadio

so in light of your responces ....a person going route 2 would probably getter better results doing 45 minutes in the morning on and empty stomach then 45 minutes post workout later on in the day and throw a low dose of say fina in there to combat catabolism....

Also depends on your goals. A lot of people come to the diet board here on Elite to learn how they can lean out....

So the answer depends on whether you're looking to add size....or decrease adipose tissue, etc.,....as most of us know, it's hard to do both at the same time (not necessarily impossible - but hard).

Actually, if this is addressed to me, no the person in situation #2 would suffer a higher level of problems. Considering, starvation, catabolism and loss of crucial muscle glycogen. Fina does combat SOME catabolism, but not in the case of 2x day - 45min cardio to burn off almost a 1000 cal. You have to take things in retrospect and see the situation objectively, so here we have a problem w/ starvation as well as catabolism. Starvation due to increased T3 levels (to breakdown muscle tissue), while leptin levels are at their lowest.

done both extremes my self

since I am following a trict diet now, I am loosing fat nicely, but the thought on NOT doing some cardio really bothers me.

my comrimise has been this..........

I go to the track and run 1.25 miles before I workout.........it woarms me up, keeps my lungs strong, and does something special for me

I have tried both ends no cardio, tons of cardio

I tried out an experiment on this the last 2 months. What i did was run about 7 miles a day and lift throughout the week (no particular regime) and ate what i want. the top of my abs became more visible but fatloss came to a hault after the first month . i probably only lost maybe 4 pounds of fat. conclusion- no way in hell your gonna lose love handles through only cardio. at least for me. diet is a must and a lot more important, plus with too much cardio u will lose a lot of muscle. just personal experiences i would like to share for whatever its worth
