Carbs or calories?

I started working out about a year ago. The result is more or less OK but not spectacular. I used to weigh about 135 and now I weigh about 145 so I haven't really gained a lot. I'm about 6' tall. My question is if I should take on more carbs or calories if I want to be more muscular? Or maybe both?

My diet is between 2 and 4 slices of bread with peanut butter or jelly in the morning, a banana or two at 10 AM, just a regular lunch consisting of bread or a sandwich or two. Then at 4 an apple and dinner is most of the time some vegetables and meat or fish. I try to have a snack after dinner but I always have a feeling I'm full. So it isn't easy to eat much more.

I know this is not ideal but when I eat more I gain weight in the wrong places! :-) I could really use some advise. Thanks!

i would cut out the jelly, sounds like all sugar, if you are going to eat that at any time of the day, morning would probably be the right time though. is it all natural peanut butter? it sounds like you are getting a lot of grains, more than i would have for mine, i guess part of that depends on what kind of bread you are having also. i would go for more protein and some EFAs. i'm kind of new to some of the dieting stuff as well. how many calories do you take in during the day? i like to track mine at fitday.com to see what i'm taking in, it really helps a lot.

You really need to stay on this board and research. PB and Jelly? Are you kidding me?

please tell me that bread you have in the morning is not white bread...

10 lbs you have gained? 10 lbs of what? Have you had your BF ested before and after?

Research a couple of bulking diets and then we can improve from that point. It is a 2 way street bro.

From what I can gather, the reason you have not been gaining as much as you like is because you are not getting nearly enough protein.

You need a protein source with every meal!

No, it's whole wheat.

Uh, I guess 10 lbs of some body mass and some muscle. I have never heard of a BF test. I'll look it up and ask in the gym where I go.
