Can't Sleep? on the days I workout

hello

I fairly new to working out again, I took a long lay off from the gym and from living a healthy life in general.

I have been lifting and doing cardio now for about 8 weeks and even though I am working out in the morning or sometimes I workout around 5pm, but not often....

I can't seem to sleep. I just lay there in bed frustrated. It is like I have drank a bunch of caffine or something. And I don't consume caffine at all.

the funny part is, in mid afternoon I will get dead tired or even just brain dead and trudge through my day, but when bed time comes......no sleep?

anyone have an suggestions. Over the counter sleeping aids work, but then I have a hard time getting my ass out of bed the next morning.

other people have got to have this problem.

thanks for your advice

man, i have the same exact problem and it drives me crazy. i wake up for work at 4 in the morning and can't ever fall asleep till 12 or 1. something i've found that actually helps me is reading. sounds stupid probably but it works for me. but it's got to be something uninteresting. i'll just crack open one of my school books and start studying and before i know it i'm knocked out.

Nice job getting back into it. Are you working out pretty intense?
If you have been lifting pretty intense for the eight weeks, you might been overtraining.

Not sleeping good or finding it hard to get to sleep is a very common trait of be overtrained. It like your CNS stays wired all the time.

Change up your program regularly by switching around exercises reps and poundages. Do some research for a variety of exercises for each bodypart. The bigger the variety the better.

Try melatonin. It's not an OTC pil, it's a supp. You can find it in the vitamins section of any gorcery store.

I'm with Gymtime

You could have described me, Melatonin works pretty good about 2 hours beforehand.

Good luck

wow...

Hey guys, thanks for all the responses. I thought I was the only one out there with the problem.

I will try the melatonin and maybe I can reduce my workout or alter them.

this problem is making me crazy, screws up my whole workday following a sleepless night. One of the worst things about all this is that I like to go for a run in the evening, would do it everynight if I knew I would be able to sleep.

Thanks again for the input, I will make some changes and keep you informed of what happens.

I agree with those who said you might be hitting it a little hard. It sounds like your fight or flight response is on overdrive, which indicates the stress to your body and especially the nervous system. I dont think you need to take time off in fact another training day might help but work on your conditioning and lower the intensity level - no going balls to the wall until your GPP - general physical preparedness is up.
