Can i shape my chest? or is it genetics?

I have a rather deep gap between my left and right muscle that's pretty much just skin...no fat, no muscle. Also, my lower pecs don't seem to be evenly rounded or squared off, towards the middle of my chest, my pecs look more like \_/\_/ (this is an exaggeration by the way, please don't think im some kinda W-Chested freak) in stead of (_)(_). I guess it's kinda hard to explain and hopefully im not confusing any of you, but i was just wondering if i continue to do flies and declines to develop my lower and inner chest, and i eventually fill in that gap and square out the bottom of my chest? Are there any other exercises that i should be doing? or does the shape of our chest depend on our muscle genetics?

it's genetics homey. some people i'm sure will respond to this and give you some false hope but basically you're just going thicken up the current shape you have. learn to like the way you are right now and focus on getting some thickness and strength built up there. you're ten times more critical of yourself than other people are.

I gotta agree with super, it's genetics. Look at it this way though. How many guys do you know who can actually see their pecs? very few I'll bet. And you can. Way to go! We are all too critical of the way we look. Thats probably why we bust ass in the gym.

:fro:

I hear you too, you see people with [ ][ ] chests in mags and what not. I'll have to do with what I have, but I'll be damn sure by the time I'm done, whatever shape I have, it will be all muscle.

The shape of a particular muscle is genetic, although the larger it becomes its aesthetic flaws will become less apparent...

hmm

I don't know about this. I always felt that I had (still have) really weak chest. You could say I have chest complex. Mine looked like /_ _\ I think I am ok my other upper body, but I am embarrased to take my top off because of my weak chest. I have been working really hard on my chest for about 3 months now and I've gained some size, but I am no where close to where I want to be. I buy your argument that it's all genetic, but it doesn't mean it can't improve by working hard and eating right. (At least that's what I like to believe...).

I am finding that the way to stimulate even further growth in the pecs, is declines, both flies and presses. Drop the inclines and do declines and flat bench for a month, see if that helps round out the pec.

cool ill try that, thanks for the advice Glootz..but why drop the inclines? why not just add more decline?

I havent seen your routine, but you dont want to over do it. IMO declines are far better for the chest because when doing inclines, my shoulders tend to give out first. They are basically the weak link, hence the reason your incline press is lighter than your other presses. I dont even do inclines.
