I was looking for a MP3 which was around $250-300 the week preceeding Xmas

The same on is now $50 to $100 more expensive

and those want us to beleive that Boxing day sales are great (which is true but for very few items)

but didn't find real good deals

I'm sure there will better sales later in january

Boxing Day/Week is pretty much a farce. Big stores will put a few things on sale, while the rest is still regularly priced (or even jacked up for that matter). The things they put on sale are either cheap or overstocked slow sellers. Most stores (smaller ones) have no sales, while quite a few are even closed. It's really only the big chain stores and mall stores that benefit from all the Boxing Day hype.
