Beginning to hate 10 rep sets

I did a set of Incline presses today, for 10 reps. This was after 2 5 rep sets of bench, and just didn't feel right.

There's something about the focus and anger required to knock out 5 heavy reps, that diminishes when you take it to 10. I feel like I subconsciously don't give my best effort when it's 10 reps, and can focus better on less reps.

There are a couple exceptions, support exercises and 20-rep squats. I wouldn't want to do heavy 5 rep L-flyes, and the 20-rep breathing squat is a true test of willpower and strength that is a love/hate relationship with me. I'm also hesitant to do less than 10 reps on bent-over rows because of the importance of super-strict form with that exercise.

i know exactly how you feel, i've been doing the 5X5 for about 3 months and doing a set of 10 on chest days has become much more difficult... i fly through the first 5 then get to 6..7 and my muscles are saying "we aren't done yet?" lol, i know thats the point to train different muscle fibres but its still tough to stay focused doing 10 with chest now everything else is fine.

It's good to mix up the number of reps... it trains the different energy pathways and keeps your adaptations diverse. Most guys pre-HST always do low reps. Most such dudes find that during the 15 rep phase they usually vomit after every single workout for at least one cycle.

:wavey: I havent puked on the 15's yet, but it basically puts me on my ass sweating bullets and feeling a little dizzy.
