Any Vegetarian body builders here?

Hey guys, I love my chicken and meat (save the joke, haha) but I have bad acid indigestion and stomach issues. I've been told that a great way to get past this is to welcome the vegetarian life style. Is there any body builders here who are vegetarian that could post their diet breakdown for me so I can build off it. Really don't like starting from scratch.

Not looking to go VEGAN, just Vegetarian.

I would be very surprised if gains in lean mass can be made without meat in your diet.
did your doctor suggest going veggie as an answer to your stomach acid problem ?

How is your veggie consumption now?

I'd continue eating meat, but load up on spinach, broccoli, and apples. These are all very basic foods that will help with digestion and creating a more favorable ph balance in the gut.

If you're willing to make a radical change like that, then why not try keeping a food diary first and see if there are specific foods that trigger the problem. There are a couple of books on allergy elimination diets out there.

Frankly, more than 75% of the time excess acid can be indicative of a food intolerance (a little more subtle than allergy). If you find the food/beverage and cut it out of your diet the acid problems go away. I had the same problem when I developed gluten intolerance (constant heartburn). Took a LONG time to pinpoint gluten, since it's in so many foods (and at the time I was vegetarian) it really did seem like everything set the heartburn off.

Hmmm that all makes sense, no my doctor suggests medication but I hate taking pills, I took some before that was supposed to cure it raberzole I believe it was called. It cleared it up for the longest time but it came back. I find it's mostly when I train sometimes after eating meat a few hours before. If I eat meat and don't train I'm fine, but if I have some chicken or something at like 5, and go to bjj at 8, 8:30 it's killing me. and I know "Just don't eat meat before class" but it's part of my supper diet, so I guess a vegaterian substituion for my supper would be decent, something with lots of protein and not too heavy,.

Rabeprazole, brand name Aciphex. Have you been tested for H. Pylori? You could have an ulcer. Anyway, Aciphex is a proton-pump inhibitor, works by decreasing the amount of acid made in the stomach.

Protein, especially animal protein, is hard to digest and acidifying to the body. Digestion takes blood away from the muscles. I know that I have to give myself a minimum of two hours after eating before training or I'm just basically useless, I've got no energy and I'm weak.

See, here's my NON medical opinion. There is a condition where your digestion slows down and food sits in your stomach too long, that can also create acid reflux. Maybe the workout is interfering with digestion and foods sitting there too long.

Long story short, if you know that eating heavy before working out screws you up, listen to your body. And eating more vegetables is never a bad thing.

Yeah it was Acidphex. And that does make sense. Maybe a light protein shake and a plate of veggies before training, or some oats or something. I guess I'm just going to have to trial and error it and double up on the veggies cause I def don't eat enough. Thanks for the help all! If I ever figure out exactly what it is i'll be sure to update lol

Keeping a detailed food diary that includes when you eat/workout and get symptoms (if any) would definitely be something you might want to consider.

I don't believe our bodies are stupid, I do believe we can be stupid about interpreting the messages our bodies are sending us and I believe certain symptoms (like heartburn or headaches) are more symptoms than disease states.
