Fact is, I was MAD he was a prick (because he LIED to me when he explicitely knew certain facts about what my options were, was extremely rude to me (there is no reason whatsoever.. tints or not) and if you aren't from chicago and dont know of all the issues we are having with our police departments, then please - do not speak. Because I like them and paid for them to get on and it will cost more to get them off. My brother's good friend manages an auto shop so he writes me a fake receipt saying I got them removed. I am not going to get them removed. There is no reason for it. IL is one of the 4 states that has this law. There is no reason to have a law that bans tints. None. No increase in crime, nothing. My brother has access to a private crime database since he's in law school and statistically, there is NO difference whatsoever. These cops are BORED. I mean I have driven by god knows how many cops and most ignore it - they don't care. Even the judge last year laughed when she saw why I was brought to court. No one cares except the few select cops who are bored (THIS ONE who pulled me over last year).

I didn't read through all 8 pages but I saw the post about her living in N suburbs of Chicago. I have to agree that the N suburb cops are extremely bored. Niles/Skokie/Glenview/Des Plaines/etc. all have nothing to do, its pretty damn peaceful up there. My buddy is going to be a cop so I've met some of the cops he knows and there isn't shit to do in the burbs.

I have very light tints on my car including the front window (~40%) and I still get pulled over by Harwood Heights cops all the time for it and ticketed. And every single time I've gotten pulled over for the tints I was doing a couple miles per hour under the limit. And I always roll all the windows down and turn on the interior lights. If tints aren't a moving violation what do they have to justify the stop?

You might say they couldn't see in the car, right? I've been pulled over when driving with the windows down so the cop never even saw the tints and there was no obstruction keeping them from looking in the car. They simply know my car from before and decide to pick on me. And its not the same cop. My buddy also gets pulled over constantly. He eventually decided to take the front tints off. He lives in the area, luckily I don't, I just pass through a lot. So when cops have enough free time to tell each other about all the local cars with tints and to fuck with them, how much policing do you think they're actually doing?

It might be illegal, but just because its a law doesn't necessarily mean that its in any way logical or right. Its a cash cow, just like the $75 city sticker every 6 months and the tollways every 20 miles on the highway. If any city in the country wants to learn how to get rich they should look at Chicago's politicians for inspiration and guidance. Luckily the city cops actually have better shit to do than bother people for tints when they're not even speeding.

You'd have a point IF:

From the position the cop was in he could have seen me through my car even if my windows weren't tinted.. but even if I had no tints, he wouldn't be able to see me.

You see, the shape of my car is VERY tiny and from where he was (behind me) even if my back window was NOT tinted, he would not be able to see through because of how compacted that car is. The drivers seat head rest nearly reaches the top so you could not see my head over that nor could you see my body because again, I am not sure if you are familiar with the shape of a TT but it doesn't allow site in from behind.

Oh wonderful! Someone who knows the northern suburbs of Chicago. Yes, I have had skokie detectives joke around and tell me that the Morton Grove cops are known for this kind of stuff because there isn't much to do. Now, I see many peoples' points that he was doing the law but in the manner it was handled, totally unprofessional.

I remember last year coming to court and that cop was there along with his "buddies," and when I walked in I looked over to where they were sitting and they were all snickering and laughing and he was looking at me... Oh wonderful! Someone who knows the northern suburbs of Chicago. Yes, I have had skokie detectives joke around and tell me that the Morton Grove cops are known for this kind of stuff because there isn't much to do. Now, I see many peoples' points that he was doing the law but in the manner it was handled, totally unprofessional.

I remember last year coming to court and that cop was there along with his "buddies," and when I walked in I looked over to where they were sitting and they were all snickering and laughing and he was looking at me... I'm not an idiot. Chicago and some of its suburbs are so messed up with their departments. Unbelievable. Only times I've been stopped by city cops it was for a drug-search (which I don't do anyways) or because the car was packed so they figured we were up to something. I think for the most part the city cops have better things to do, of course there will always be the few bad apples in the bunch.

I'd hate to live in Morton Grove or Skokie just for the fact that I know the cops will mess with me. If anything I'd move out to Schaumburg, haven't hear d any bad stories about their departments, and my uncle lives out there so thats always a plus to have family nearby. Half the time I live in Morton Grove and the other half in Lakeview/Lincoln Park Chicago. I don't like CPD much actually - they are more corrupt. My b/f had an entire lawsuit against them and the city and it was settled but they had their embarassment. Oh well. But the Chicago police definitely don't give about tints.

Just got pulled over for tints. I must say, I was doing pretty well since I hadn't gotten pulled over for tints in over a year.

Yup - SAME cop that pulled me over last time (over a year ago). And pulled his same shit. Pulled a U turn, tailgated me, and then when I made my right, he pulled me over. At least this time I didn't have to explain to the fucker that I was JUST pulled over 3 weeks before and I ALREADY had a court date FOR TINTS (even though he wrote me ANOTHER ticket and I had to go to TWO freakin' court dates in one week). I love how these idiotic cops think girls in nice cars don't know what the fuck they're doing. LMFAO - Everytime I get pulled over, I do this "Officer, could you please hang on while I call my brother? He's a lawyer." Haha - their demeanor totally changes. Anyway, this is what I get for tints...so I am willing to take it. BUT

I am not mad I got pulled over.. I am made because the cop was an asshole, gave me INACCURATE information, and abused his power as an officer. Sorry if that didn't get across before.

Not to go back to this thread but to answer some comments. He was an asshole PRIOR to me saying that I was going to call my brother who was a lawyer and the MINUTE I said that his demeanor changed so yes, I had a reason to do it. Not to mention that I could then find out what the cop was doing that was legit, and the reason that I found out WHAT he was doing WASN'T legit was because my brother told me. So I am glad I called because otherwise I may not have known and that cop would have taken complete advantage of the fact that I don't know every little thing about the law.

I understand. I feel a lot better in my car with tinted windows. As I said in a previous post - I once had a freakin' weirdo try to get in my car when it was dark out and I was at a red light. I've noticed with my tints that people cannot see in as much and it hasn't happened again. I feel safer at night - no joke. May sound silly but when you've had a wacko try to get in your car, well.. you catch my drift.
