A (stupid) question about the frequency of protein intake - need advice!

I'm sure we all have this problem, but I want to be serious with my diet and being a teenager (20 this year) means I often go out to clubs/parties until late.

Most of the food there is obviously **** and I don't drink, so if I eat my last meal at 8pm, then go out until late, I often don't get any calories or protein until I get home and crash, which is usually around 1am (often later). Obviously, this isn't ideal.

Would it be adequate if I took a couple of handfuls of almonds to fit in my pocket and eat them while I am out? (I'm assuming this would be about 180 calories of fat and fibre - would this last me until I get some protein once I arrive home?)
OR is 5+ hours too long to go without any protein? If so, I could fit some protein powder in my pocket (whey/casein) and down a shake with my nuts (lol, while others will be drinking alcohol in the club, I will be having a shake :D).

K for advice.

i would attempt to fit some kind of protein into a snack you could take with you. maybe if you could find a jerky to take with you, although most are really high sodium. i make my own, and carry a bit with me if i'm going to be out quite a while. I think the almonds could be good in moderation, as they are good fats, but fats nonetheless so you'll wanna watch how much of them you take in as well. I think they would be a decent stand in. if oyu could do the shake, i might go more that direction, both wouldnt be a bad idea. And dont think that your questions are dumb, the only dumb ones are the ones that go unasked, we are all working toward the same goals, its great that we all have each other to help out!

OK. Picture a woman walking up to talk to you, then she sees you picking almonds out of your pocket...LOL And a shake is kind of a pain in the ass when you're out. Usually I just bring a protein bar or two with me. It's more balanced in nutrition, and it looks better than picking almonds out of your pocket...LOL Cheers!!

DJ, I think the shake idea would be inconvenient. How about a bar, as Chit mentioned? OK, it will have carbs, but it will also have protein in it... and it is easy to eat.

Thnking about it, you are prone to do some "cardio" while at the club and with luck some cardio afterwards. :p so don't really worry about the carbs.

Seriously, I think it is all about moderation: if your other 42 meals are OK, a night out (specially not drinking) will not hit you that hard. My advice would be: Avoid the junk food, eat your protein bar if you have the chance and enjoy your 20's!!! (if you feel too guilty, do some cardio a la pintoca the morning after)
