A Question For You Guys That Run 3+ Miles On A Regular Basis(frorider6 And Others)

I WANT TO START RUNNING ANYWHERE FROM 1MILE(CROSSCOUNTRY TYPE RUN) TO 3 MILES THREE DAYS A WEEK. I WAS WONDERING HOW YOU GUYS KEEP YOUR MUSCLE RUNNING LIKE THIS? SEE RIGHT NOW I AM CUTTING SO I WANT TO USE THE RUNNING TO HELP BURN UP SOME FAT BUT ONCE I GET DONE CUTTING I WANT CONTINUE TO RUN BECAUSE OF THE WAY IT MAKES ME FEEL. I STOPPED RUNNING ABOUT A YEAR AGO AND HAVENT FELT AS GOOD EVER SINCE. I ONLY LIFT 3 DAYS PER WEEK AND WOULD POSSIBLY RUN ON OFF DAYS MAYBE A RUN ONLY ONCE AFTER LIFTING. ALL MY RUNNING AND LIFTING IS IN THE AFTERNOON SO I WONT BE DOING IT IN THE MORNING ON AN EMPTY STOMACH OR ANYTHING. FIRST OFF DO YOU GUYS THINK I CAN STILL LOSE FAT AND KEEP MOST OF MUSCLE RUNNING LIKE THIS EVEN THOUGH ITS IN THE AFTERNOON INSTEAD OF ON AN EMPTY STOMACH? ALSO, CAN I STILL KEEP MY STRENGTH AND SIZE UP ONCE I DECIDE TO STOP CUTTING AND JUST MAINTAING? BY THE WAY MY STATS ARE 22YEARS OLD, 5'5" TALL, 190LBS, 12-14%BF, 15 INCH ARMS, 43 INCH CHEST, 32 INCH QUADS, 18 INCH CALFS, ABOUT A 32 INCH WAIST.
 
to preserve your muscle and burn fat your are better off running a short distance faster. meaning 2x a week run a fast mile to a mile and a half and try to decrease your time not increase your running distance. distance running and weight training for hypertrophy do not mix.
 
WELL DO YOU THINK ITS COOL IF I RUN IN THE AFTERNOON INSTEAD OF THE MORNING FOR FATLOSS? I WAS ALSO THINKING OF RUNNING LIKE A SLOWER LONGER DISTANCE ONCE A WEEK LIKE ABOUT 2 MILES OR SO AND THEN LIKE YOU SAID AND THEN HAVE A DAY THAT I RUN LIKE A FAST MILE AND THEN HAVE A DAY THAT I RUN SPRINTS OR SOMETHING. I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO LOL.

I used to run 20 miles a week (4mi 5x). Now I only run 2 miles a shot. I run on days I workout, and on days off.

If I run on a day that I workout I make sure I refuel before I run. Lets say I hit shoulders in the morning at 10; I won't run until the evening. If I work out legs, I do not run that day (last time I tried that I was limping for two weeks).

My theory is that by running only 2 miles my total cardio time is limited to below 20 minutes, thus decreasing the possibility for catabolism. Some days I feel just to great and I run 3 miles, this takes me about 27 minutes. This is as long as I dare run.
 
THANKS FOR THE REPLIES. I CANT TURN THE CAPS OFF BECAUSE IM AT WORK AND THE CAPS LOCK ON MY COMPUTER IS BROKEN LOL.
