40 lbs or 100 lbs ?

Hi everyone. I need to increase my weight, unfortunately, cannot afford a lot, I work out at home so I only have 2 pairs of dumbells now.

Want to add on some cool looking muscle size, should I go with a 40lb dumbell set to start with that's afforadable and add on plates, buying them individually as I need, or should I save up for he 100lb. set ? trying to save every penny for a new home

what do other girls here lift ? Does anyone work out at home, or does everyone belong to a gym ?

PS: I'm just curious, for example- when I work my shoulders & biceps which is 2x a week I get a nice, huge pump the muscle looks nice & big, but the next day you can't even tell I worked it. I only use currently 5 & 8 lb dumbells, so if I increase the weight will I get bigger more defined shoulders & biceps ? ? ?

I'm frustrated, my muscles look good when I look in the mirror, but in a photo you can hardly tell I have muscle !

Please anyone answer this ??

Thanks

Probably depends on the cost differential. For exercises you can do w/ dumbbells, especially if you are workign w/ fairly low weights right now, you won't need anythign larger than maybe 30 lb dumbbells - for ex, 15 - 20 lb weights for curls, maybe 30 lb dumbbells for bent-over rows, no more than 10-12 lb for tricep extensions, 20-25 lb for bench presses (flat or incline), 20-25 for shoulder presses. Mind you these would probably be the max weights you would need.

Buff, 5 and 8lb dumbbells will most likely not be enough for you to build any noticable muscle. Also the 100lb set will give you room to grow. :)

And buying dumbbells ala carte is usually more expensive, so stick with the sets.
