I watched while my son, IN FATIGUES, walked through the security line carrying his boots (before scanners came online). He was not deploying to the the middle east, but he easily could have been. The military uses mostly commercial airlines anymore. If military personnel carrying orders, who are about to put THEIR ASS on the line for you and every other SOB in this nation are going to be subjected to scanners and searches, why should some soccermom's precious princess be exempt?!

Shit, the last time I flew I watched an Amish woman, AN AMISH WOMAN!!!, get pulled for a random security screen.

And considering at 46, it's been a long time since I've been a teenager so Sabrina's a bit off. Also, I'm not a witch, I'm a wiccan. The difference is subtle, but exists. It's sort of like the difference between a Baptist and an Episcopalian.

I think you both misunderstand my position. First I want to clarify that I don't agree with these searches at all. Not cause she is a child but because it is an illegal search. I would and do absolutely disagree with searching a soldier.

Also I realize we have white terrorists but my point is we have become so politically correct that we don't focus on the problem. What does an investigator look for in a particular crime? Somebody who fits the bill right? A profiler??

As time goes on Americans become more and more comfortable with our erosion of our rights. I for one am not. I don't want the little girl searched, the old man, the black man, the Asian woman, the Saudi teenager either. Wake up people. Cause before you know it we will all have curfews and need permission to even leave our homes. Yes that's extreme but think about how much the government has infringed on our rights so far. Some schools won't allow parents to pack home lunches for kids in school for fear of lack of nutrition. It's called a nanny state and that should not be a school choice but a parents choice as to what they eat. Just another example of free choice being taken away.

People dont understand that flying isn't a right, it is a privilege and if you agree to fly you agree to these rules.... period.... if we stop searching children or people in wheelchairs or people with X circumstance, then guess what the terrorists will try next? that's right putting something on someone in these conditions in order to execute their plan...

^ Exactly, Nan. Flying is a privilege. By opting in to flying, you are opting in to a search. There is a big difference between that and government officials bursting in to your home and doing an unwarranted search of your belongings, or stopping you on the street and doing the same. You don't HAVE to fly, but if you choose to, you need to deal with the search. Theres nothing unconstitutional about the government searching you because you are voluntarily getting on a plane. You can easily choose not to get on a plane and avoid it..

And my right to live outweighs your right to not be searched. It's not a subtraction of rights, it's a prioritizing of them.

I agree with you on other things, like parents not being allowed to pack lunches but not this.

The "random" searches were happening since 2003 because that's the last time I flew and I was pulled for a search then in both directions. One way they searched my person, the other they emptied my luggage.

I'm not sure what part you think I'm full of shit in? It's not a heathen symbol it's actually for Thor if it makes a difference. And I'm not insulting your intelligence. It would be pretty amazing if your name was Sabrina and you were from Wichita. Also, how would I even know that? Just trying to have a rational and spirited debate. We clearly don't see eye to eye on all of the subject but again I never threw, religion, sex, or name calling into the mix.

But if it doesn't bother you to have US citizens etc searched in the manner as this child was that's fine. It seemed like you were pretty fired up over your son who is a soldier (rightfully so I might add) being searched. It further illustrates my point. And these searches are very new the alternative is to have a full body scan which is close to nude imaging as you can get or you can choose to have this done in a private room. This particular TSA agent was very respectful and was not an asshole but I still do not agree with the policy.

Yes, it's a heathen symbol, it's the symbol of Thor's hammer, not Thor. If you were to attend a pagan gathering anyone seeing you wear that symbol would automatically think you were a heathen, i.e., Asatru. Meaning, a follower of the Nordic religion, considered to be a people of great honor.

Honestly, I fail to see why this should cause any more outrage than, say, an active duty service member being subjected to a search when they are on their way to be deployed

The child was treated in a professional manner, the TSA agent was explaining everything she did while she did it, and the search was no more rough or invasive than any other pat down I've seen. Obviously the parents didn't want her to go through the scanner, so that's what happens.

Shit, terrorists have NO problem handing a grenade to their child, pulling the pin and telling them to run up to the soldiers. Drug smugglers have NO problem telling children to swallow balloons filled with drugs. Just because a human being is under the age of 18 doesn't mean they cannot be a bomb or mule.

Bush started dismantling the bill of rights long before Obama came on the scene, you people gave up your right to unlawful search and seizure last decade and smiled while it happened.
