working out chest for women

i have this female friend who works out. thing is she refuses to work her chest. somebody told her once that if a girl works her chest is will make her breasts smaller. this particular girl already has very small breasts and thinks if she works her chest that it will get worse. i don't believe that it would happen like that. would it??

Hey

I aint no expert but Ive heard that the reason the breasts get smaller is coz the muscle gets bigger, maybe she should train her chest using very light weights

But dont take my word for it, just giving my opinon ;)

Ummm, OK, before I'm a moron again & write a sincere, serious reply, please tell me this is a serious post???

Using very light weights is totally ineffective at *building* & strengthening muscle (aka "lean mass").

Ummmm, isn't building muscle the theme of this web site??? Where am I?

Well as i said I aint no expert, :))

I know light weights dont build mass but maybe she could use light weights to tone her chest, I guess its better than just not trainig it at all?

What do ya think?

That's just the point I think she was trying to make, there is no such thing as "toning". Light weights/high reps won't do shit. You get "toned" by building muscle and losing fat. I speak from experience as well. :)

Yup, Cheetarah hit the nail on the head - there's no such thing as toning.

Oh, but Light weights/high reps WILL do shit.
It can get you at risk for overuse injuries & joint pain!!!!

Here's the deal... breasts are made up of mammary tissue (not large on ANY woman) and FAT. Big breats are breasts with lots of fat in them [*real* big breasts, I mean:lmao:]. That's it.

Typically (yes, there are exceptions, but rare) the higher your % of fat - [the more fat on your body] - the more fat will be in your breasts - the larger they will be.

In reverse, the LESS fat you have on your body, typically the LESS fat you will have on your breasts - the smaller they will be.
--------------- This is why I sometimes get pissed off when watching porn & the chicks have these big ones with thin thighs & perfectly flat bellies... NO, women aren't built like that!

Here's the deal with toning & why it does NOT EXIST.

You have X% of fat on your body. YOU CAN'T DECIDE WHERE THAT FAT RESIDES! Genetics makes that decision FOR you. Unfortunately....

Working with weights to BUILD lean mass will change the SHAPE of your body, but won't necessarily make fat go away (healthy diet can though, when mixed with training... but that's another issue).

IF only building muscle automatically made fat go away from the area where the muscle was built (all other factors the same).... then I could squat & lose ass flab. Alas, that is not so :rolleyes:

smr91481 - I hope your friend is going to start benching! (& doing push-ups, flies, cable crossovers...)

Ok well you guys win, I obviously dont know much :bawling: but thanks for giving me your thoughts on fat and toning, serously though I didn t know all that, so its realy great to learn :))

But I did say that I aint no expert, and I realy am not, :))

Don't worry about it-- I didn't know this stuff several years ago either & of course I still have tons to learn. I'm really glad this distinction is clear to you, I know it is VERY hard to let go of all those common myths b/c they are so pervasive in our society. Keep reading, ask questions when you're not sure & it's all good!
