Who's doing HIIT?

I originally posted this in the training forum but did not receive much feedback.

I am thinking of adding HIIT in the mornings, either eliptical or threadmill. Just wanted to see what people are doing for HIIT and just get any advise that you guys might want to give. Also, I understand that you should have some protein prior to HIIT as opposed to empty stomach morning cardio. What are the general guidelines for this meal?

Thanks in advance

I normally do HIIT during my cutting phase in the spring and summer, 3 times a week. You can find much more info here:

http://www.musclemedia.com/training/hiit.asp

There are MANY studies that show the importance of interval training. If you opt to do HIIT, eat something lite, like a protein shake with a handful of oats to prevent catabolism and give you some needed energy...

Currently I'm doing mod intensity first thing on an empty stomach (too cooooold outside)

What amount of time should be placed between the protein and the workout? Can I take it and workout within 10 - 15 mins. or should I wait more thatn 45 mins.?

If you're doing cardio, why are you wanting to eat before doing so? You're not going to burn any stored bodyfat (HIIT doesn't do that anyhow) and you're burning off the nutrients you just ate, which I'd utilize for repair at another time. Just makes no sense to me why anyone would eat (especially carbs right before) then attempt to do cardio of ANY kind.

From what I understand, HIIT doesn't work by burning fat/cals during the workout but rather it burns more fat/cals throughout the day, as opposed to regular cardio where you are just burning cals while doing the cardio. Well I'm stil llearning about it so I'm sure some one else with a better clue can give a better answer about it.

Do you do HIIT or just regular morning cardio?

it will burn fat during the exercise, granted not a lot, the real benefit comes from elevated metabolism afterwards.. some people need to grasp that fat loss doesn't need to happen RIGHT AS YOU'RE DOING AN ACTIVITY for something to be effective.

HIIT is much more effective, but some people don't have the will power to push that intensely during a session, so regular low intensity is a better option.

Thanks bud, i knew some one had the right explanantion.

Doing HIIT in the morning is most beneficial. Do not eat prior to because it is not beneficial. You are not burning fat during the workout no matter what someone tells you. It takes longer than 20 minutes of exercise to burn fat. What HIIT does is spike the BMR for the next 12 hours. Ingest proper nutrients throughout the day and reek the advantages. Try the ECA stake if o.k. with your body. Take it every 2.5 hours starting at 6am so you will be finshed by the afternoon so it will not inerupt uour sleep.

Ok, please explain to me the value of not eating something before doing HIIT if your goal is not fat loss during the time your doing it, but rather an elevated metabolic rate 12 hours after?

Wouldn't it be muscle sparing to eat protein before? And in that case, some carbs too so you have the energy?

I am starting to see the value in moderate intensity with no food ingested before.
