Waistline

I have been doing cardio 5x to 6x a week for 45 to 60 mins at arond 75% mhr for the last 6 weeks. I also lift 3x to 4x a week with a 3 part split routine, doing legs one day, chest, tris and shoulders another and back and bis another day. I try to not do two upper body days in a row, separating them with a day of leg work.

I am 6'4", 58 yo, and weight 275. I started working out again after a year's lapse, four months ago, but upped the frequency over the last 5 or so weeks. Thing is, the scales haven't move much and my waistline neither. However, my pants feel a lot loser.

My question is, how come the belly is so slow to show any progress, or is it just me? Also, when might I expect to see some real results in my waistline?

You did not mention anything about your diet. What's your diet like? How's your recovery? ... sleep and "off" days?

Your pants feel looser and that's a good thing even if the scale hasn't moved. You may have put on muscle and dropped a little bit of fat around where they feel looser.

after a year you might drop a lot of water quite quickly. YOur diet is key in this equation though, so I agree the info is missing.

Congrats on coming back to the lifestyle. Don't worry about your weight, it is not the way to measure sucess, the only true indicator of how good or bad you are doing is:

your body fat

followed closely by your mirror.

Thanks for the replies guys. My diet is alot cleaner than it used to be though not perfect. I am taking in about 2500 cals a day. I am also trying to take in at least 160 gms of protein a day. This is somewhat hard for me as my old diet used to be heaviliy carb based. I have cut out all booze of any kind as well as all candies, sweets, etc. I still struggle with white flour products like pasta and breads, but I 've switched over to multigrain and do oatmeal for breakfast in the morning. One thing, I am a big milk lover, consuming about a half gallon a day of 1%.

Let me know what you think.

AH! I believe the dairy may be your mid-section culprit!

Dairy does funny things to my body composition as well, I'm dieting also right now. I cut out all dairy. I've incorporated in it's place a Calcium Citrate supplement. I reccomend trying the same... I almost know for a fact you'll see results!

EDIT: Also... you may be taking in too little calories for your body weight at 275 lbs. I know you're trying to loose weight but you've got to find out your BMR and then reduce it a few hundred calories per day to keep the metabolism burning steadily

also try to remember that typically the last place you put on weight will be the first real noticable places you loose it..

every seen someone a notice theyve lost weight...it usually because there face is looking thinner...

Yeap, good point. My ab is the last and most stubborn part that I struggle with.
