Traps, do they make the man?

Just an observation. Look at guys that look huge and like they are going to rip your head off, they have big shoulders and traps that come up to thier ears.

Then look at male fitness models and the guys in the Abercrombie commercials, they have chiseled abs and a few even work legs, but they never look huge, and they rarely have big traps.

I think good traps make the upper body. If you have nice large traps and nice round delts, your whole body looks larger. Plus you need a thick neck. I was thinking of a way i could isolate my neck and this guy in the gym was shocked and asked why would anyone want a thick neck. Some guys just don't get it.

Funny U mention that.

At one of the first gyms I joined, they had two (2) neck machines for front to back and left to right movements.

The NECK machine, no shit brother (In my best Hulk "Hizoote" Hugan voice) it was fabulous.

I have never seen a neck machine. I was thinking i could take a towel or old shirt and make it wrap around my head and hang a rope with a weight off of it to to neck extensions. Either that or i need to try and find a place to buy one of those neck harnesses. I have no idea where to buy one though.

It's always been my opinion that it's actually the right brachilias that makes the man as opposed to the traps. I have since stopped working out all other body parts and pretty much just hit heavy, heavy hammer curls with my right arm to concentrate on the development of that brach. I'm doing a 5x5 routine right now consisting solely of hammer curls with my right arm for the core movement, supplemented by more sets of hammer curls with my right arm for isolation. Right now I'm in the process of designing a wheel chair that solely relies on the movement of my right brach to get around. This will allow me to achieve a level of atrophy on all my other muscles that will really bring out my right brach.

That doesn't really sound safe, with the "hanging the weight" from the head/neck.

Unless it were black leather attached to a nice young lady... :p Who could fashion as the weight.

:freak:

I wouldnt mind doing some "head" exercises with those chicks. :D

Neck machines rock! I used to use the towel, but once I found the machines I'll never go back.

my traps are pretty bug...i worry about them sometimes because they just got huge first. i dont even really train em that much, just s. cable rows and of late olympic lifts......they are very prominent as well....

i hope they dont make me look too ogre-ish

It took me many years to build pretty good traps. When I started working them consistently every week, they started to grow. For the neck, get a 45 pound plate, put a towel across your forehead and hang your head off the end of a bench. With the plate resting on your forehead and using your hands only to balance the plate, lower your head back and raise it back up with the plate for resistance. This will build a massive neck. I don't like the wrestler's bridge even though it may be effective because I think it's dangerous. For the back of neck, I will get on a bench with feet on the bench lying on my back and raise up my bodyweight with the back of my head and hold. I only do 1 set each way. Be prepared to look like a bulldog. For the side, Hold your hand against your temple and push to provide resistance while trying to flex to the side.
