Time frame for weight loss

I constantly have people asking me for advice at work, and people ALWAYS want to know, if they work hard and stick to a diet, how fast can they go from a fatass to lean. I always tell them 3 months. Does anybody else think more, less, just wanted to get an opinion.

Are you talking about a person who is weight training, doing cardio, and sticking to a diet? If its just the diet, i'd say a lot longer than that depending on how much they want to lose. Your question is extremely vague, and is very dependant on the individual.

2lbs/week tops. So it depends how fat they are. For the average fatty 20-30lbs overweight, your estimate is probably about right. Most of them will give up part-way through though as they will expect to lose 10lbs a week.

2 lbs per week is about right. you could really do 3 lbs per week if you're diet is maximized and you're really workin in the gym. it'd be difficult. regardless, those aren't REAL goals. most people just don't go from sludge to superman overnight. honestly, 6 months is realistic for the average person to really see a complete difference in themselves. sure, they'll see results sooner, but i think by then they'll have transformed themselves.

I've lost 40lbs before and realistically unless the person has iron will, discpline and very educated regarding diet, they will only lose about 1lb per week. I'm a firm believer that it is daily caloric intake Vs. caloric expenditure, and to lose 3lbs per week you need an enormous amount of expenditure (lots of muscle and cardio) or a near fasting diet (rice cakes and water).

Tell them averge of 1lb per week and it goes by fast if the are consistently working hard, and not to give up with diet detours.

just my opinion, i could be wrong.

to folllow up on my statement, 2 lbs per week if you're very committed, meaning you have the right diet and are exercising HARD. 1lb a week is more typical and probably more achievable.
