Sumo Deadlifts - some questions

the nature boy

New member
anybody here do them?

what grip do you use? I use the palms facing towards my body grip, should I use the traditional alternate grip? the weight is starting to get heavy and my grip is slipping.

how far apart do you place your feet? at what angle are your toes pointed?

how close to failure do you go?

Thanks for any and all responses.

sup bud, well i do the sumo style deads.
i go pretty wide on them, usually the lenght of one leg or a little wider. my toes are usually pointed out a little more than 45 degrees.
i also use the same grip as you do, and a lot of chalk helps a lot. hope this help.

I put my feet almost to the plates, I am about 6'2". If I am lifting heavy I use the alternate grip, if not palms in like you. I only go close to failure when I am attempting to max. Otherwise I usually do sets of 6-10. Also I point my feet out about 60degrees so my knees get out of the way of the bar. Hope this helps.

Since I can not post pics anymore...of people doing sumo...you can email me and I'll send you a few pics....

foot angle should be dictated by how tall you are. tall fuckers have it bad and need to be flexible to get into the right position, tsk tsk. glad im shorter.

Heck no...I love to wear my sumo diaper when I deadlift. We are in this together. :)

yeah i totally love sumo DL's. somehow, i cant get my back straight, during regular DL's, so sumo style works great for me.
