Skim milk? (and other low GI carbs!)

I am running out of options for bulking carbs. I am always ridiculously busy, and never have time to sit and cook food. Plus, my massive carb demand makes things difficult. Sometimes, I drink an entire half gallon of milk (about 90-100 g carbs). Is skim milk a good low GI carb?

What are other low GI carb sources that are easy to pick up and eat on the go? I usually eat whole wheat bread combined with milk to get my 1000 g carbs a day. Anybody got anything else to recommend to me as a good low gi carb?
 
Brown Rice - If you don't want to cook a big batch you can buy the 1 minute individual cups and throw it in the microwave real quick wherever you are eating or before you leave in the morning

Sweet Potatoes - Again, if you don't have time to cook you can buy the kind that comes in a baby food jar.....its just blended sweet potatoes with nothing added

Oh....BROWN RICE CAKES (no salt added) - I get these from whole foods....they are rice cakes made from brown rice and would definitely be a good choice if you're on the go

I'm crazy busy too but manage to find time on the weekend to cook up a bunch of food for the week. See if you can do that...its worth it

Carbs from whole grains and some vegetables is always ideal.


Oatmeal. I toss 1 cup dry into hot water in a cup. Stir it, add more water so it's easily swallowed and drink it down.

And you reason for eating 1000grams of carbs a day is...?
 
I'm 260 lbs and I have a quick metabolism. If I eat less than 1000 g I lose weight.

Is milk a good choice to drink?

I have heard that the GI for milk is decietfully placed as low glycemic. I haven't really ever read up on it much. Milk is nature's protein drink. Dunno. I'd have to get some more info on that.
 
Well, I did some research and some people say that lactose (the sugar in milk) absolutely does not cause an insulin spike, while some people say that it does.

I'm friggen confused.
 
Skim milk has a low GI but high insulin index. There are not many studies on this. Note also that the studies suggest that protein/carbs mixed have a synergistic insulin effect, as opposed to a blunting effect (eg, compared II and GI of baked beans). Note, meats also elicit an insulin response.

The high II of milk is thought to be because of the proteins, as opposed to the carb content. Whey proteins and BCAA's are very insulingenic.

If you are consuming 1000g of carbs daily, the glycemic load of the carbs will be high even if the GI is low. Worrying about insulin spikes also seems comical given that level of C intake.

Cobra: as for sugar in milk. All carbs break down into sugar. If your glycogen levels are low and accommodate the carbs, you will not gain fat. If your glycogen stores are full and the carbs are not burnt contemporaneous to their digestion, fat storage is likely.

Hence, milk AM, pre/post workout in proper doses should not make you fat. Milk pre-bed may be an issue, but so could brown rice. On other hand, if you ate no carbs during the day and had milk in the PM, you'd probably be fine.
