i've been talking to him for a while now and he really has his heart set on me being his step dad!!

don't let him down!

Someone here always has a way of making me literaly laugh out loud and everyone at work has to ask me what I am laughing at. I am gonna get so busted one of these days! :)

Good one, surely wasn't expecting that one!

Open him a savings account for his first car. Put $200 in there and encourage him to add to it.

Tell him you will match the total amount in there by the time he is 16.

I did put trucks first and changed it! lol I try to keep up with these things and no we have no skate parks around here which surprises me since all the boys I know are really into it big time! So no one thinks getting your son a gift card is cheesy?
and just giving him cash seems so impersonal IMO.

You know what, he'll be just as happy with cash as he would with a ps2 or skateboarding gift. If you want one he'll remember maybe get him a Cross pen and pencil set. It's nothing he'll brag to his friends about getting, but every time he sees them he'll think of you, and it's something he'll have long after he's tired of skating and video games (let's hope he grows out of video games).

I still have the set my mom gave me when I was in 4th grade.

have him make you a list

He use to do that for me or I would bring magazine's home and he would have fun (spents hours) marking all the things he wanted and they just don't make magazines that carry stuff in his age bracket..or not that I know of anyway.

this is the 21 century, have him send you web links to stuff he likes.

Prada, Darling. Prada is always the way to the heart of a young boy. But if you are still uncertain, why don't you take him to the mall and observe what he comments on or ask him to do a list?

I guess your right but last time I let him surf the web he somehow got my tool bar on the side of my computer and took me forever to figure out how to get it back. lol
That is a good option though. Thanks!
